Tensions escalated after actor-turned-politician and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut made remarks about the mindset of some women from the younger generation, referring to them as “gutter-chhaap.”
Students staged a protest in Jabalpur on Saturday against Ranaut’s remarks concerning students protesting over the NEET examination at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. The protesters gathered at Ghantaghar, burned an effigy of Ranaut and demanded her resignation as an MP.
The protesting students said the Delhi demonstration was linked to allegations of a NEET paper leak and concerns over students’ futures. They alleged that Ranaut’s remarks about students and women in connection with such a serious issue were inappropriate and objectionable.
Students warn of more protests
Student Ruchika Gupta said students had taken part in the Delhi protest despite facing police action, and alleged that the language used by Ranaut about the movement was against democratic values.
She said remarks against women of this nature could not be accepted.
The protesters burned Ranaut’s effigy in the presence of police. They warned that demonstrations would continue in the city if action was not taken against the BJP MP and she was not removed from office.
What did Kangana Ranaut Say?
Ranaut had criticised a student protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, which she described as being led by the “Cockroach Janata Party (CJP).” She referred to the participating Gen-Z students as “Generation Gutter.”
She also shared a post on her Instagram Story criticising reels related to the student protests, describing them as vulgar.
Ranaut said watching such reels made her feel like vomiting. Expressing her anger on Instagram, she criticised the language and manner of speaking used by the protesters.
She wrote that she had never seen “such vulgar content” together in a single frame and questioned who was raising the people involved and how they had been brought up.
