Police have arrested a teacher who participated in a protest under the banner of Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) in Katni district of Madhya Pradesh. The teacher had raised his voice against cheating and corruption in schools.

Police have arrested him on charges of assault on the in-charge principal and a female teacher. The Education Department has also suspended him.

Meanwhile, after the arrest, teacher Varun Nayak has shown his body injuries to media personnel. There are cut marks on his legs, back, and hands. Looking at the injuries, it appears that the back has been slashed with a sharp weapon. Varun Nayak has alleged that he has been punished for exposing the education system.

On July 25, questions were raised about the education system in CJP’s protest

The entire matter is related to CJP’s protest held at Forester Ground in Katni on July 25. Varun Nayak, posted as Primary Teacher (Science) at Government Higher Secondary School, Bilhari, had also participated in it. After the protest, he released a video raising serious questions about the education system.

He alleged that corruption and cheating arrangements are fixed from his school to tehsil and district level at the BEO and DEO levels. Many students of 11th and 12th cannot even write the spelling of common English words like ‘Result’ and ‘Pass’, yet they are being passed.

Suspended 3 days after video went viral

After the video surfaced, the Education Department sprang into action. The District Education Officer (DEO) issued the suspension order for Varun Nayak on July 28, 2026. On July 30, around 11:40 AM, Varun Nayak reached Government Higher Secondary School, Bilhari. After this, a dispute started on the school premises.

Allegation of tearing suspension order and creating ruckus

In-charge Principal Devendra Kumar Tiwari (55) complained to the police that as soon as he handed over the suspension order, Varun Nayak tore it up. After that, he demanded money to drink alcohol. When refused, he abused and threatened to kill him.

Former Principal Rekha Tiwari was dragged and beaten

According to the Principal’s complaint, Varun Nayak held former Principal Rekha Tiwari responsible for his suspension. He grabbed Rekha Tiwari’s hair and dragged her, slapped her, and threw her on the ground. During the incident, other school staff intervened.

Allegation of scuffle with personnel when police arrived

Upon receiving information about a dispute at the school, a police team from Bilhari outpost reached the spot. The team included Ram Singh, Vyas Gupta, and Saurabh Jain. According to the police, even at the spot, Varun Nayak did not calm down and scuffled with the police personnel. One police officer was also injured.

Teacher says, ‘Action taken because he raised his voice’

Varun Nayak says that he had raised his voice against education policies, the cheating system in schools, and alleged corruption. This is why he was targeted. First he was suspended, then action was taken against him.

Police says – Accused scuffled

Bilhari police stated – Upon receiving information about a dispute at the school, a team was sent to the spot. The accused teacher was creating a commotion there.

When stopped, he scuffled with the police personnel. Based on a complaint by In-charge Principal Devendra Kumar Tiwari, Bilhari Chowki (Kuthla Police Station) police registered an FIR against Varun Nayak.

Police have charged him with tearing government documents, assault, abusive language, obstructing government work, and threatening to murder. After his arrest, he was presented in court, from where the court sent him to jail.
