A 27-year-old mother of two has accused her brother-in-law of allegedly sexually assaulting her for four years by promising to marry her in Gwalior’s Murar area.
The woman told police that her husband left her and their children around five years ago and went to live with members of the transgender community. She alleged that her brother-in-law subsequently promised to support and marry her, but sexually exploited her for years while repeatedly assuring her that they would get married.
The accused allegedly refused to marry her when she recently pressured him to fulfil his promise.
Based on her complaint, Murar police have registered a case and launched a search for the accused.
Woman married in 2017, has two children
The 27-year-old woman, a resident of Murar, told police that she got married in 2017.
She and her husband have two children—a son aged eight and a daughter aged five.
According to her complaint, their family life remained normal for around four years. However, her husband subsequently left her and the children and went to live with members of the transgender community. She said he has not returned since.
Brother-in-law allegedly exploited her on pretext of marriage
The woman said she was left to raise both children alone after her husband left.
During this period, her brother-in-law allegedly gained her trust by assuring her that he would support and marry her.
She alleged that from April 2022, he began having a physical relationship with her on the promise of marriage. She said he repeatedly assured her that he would marry her soon.
Allegedly refused to marry her when pressured
The woman alleged that when she began pressuring him to marry her, he backed out of his promise and allegedly threatened her.
Feeling cheated, she approached Murar police late on Saturday night and filed a complaint detailing the alleged abuse.
Police searching for accused
Murar police station in-charge Maina Patel said a case has been registered against the woman’s brother-in-law under relevant sections, including rape and cheating.
The accused is currently absconding, police said. A police team is conducting raids at possible locations to arrest him and he is expected to be arrested soon.
