On the first Monday of Sawan, the gates of Achleshwar Temple were opened at 12 AM on Sunday night, and since then, there has been a crowd of devotees coming to see Baba Mahadev.

First, the Kanwariyas performed ‘Jalabhishek’ (ritual bathing) of Lord Shiva with Ganga water, after which the temple gates were opened for general devotees.

From 4 AM, long queues formed for ‘darshan’ (viewing) at major Shiva temples including Achleshwar Mahadev, Koteshwar Mahadev, and Gupteshwar Mahadev. The entire atmosphere resonated with the chants of ‘Har Har Mahadev’ and ‘Bam Bam Bhole’.

Darshan started at Achleshwar Temple from 12 AM

At the ancient Achleshwar Mahadev Temple in the city, arrangements for darshan had begun from 12 AM. First, the Kanwariyas were given the opportunity for darshan and Jalabhishek of Baba.

After this, the temple gates were opened for general devotees. A special Aarti (ritual of worship) took place in the temple amidst the reverberation of drums, cymbals, and damrus.

Considering the crowd, the temple committee has arranged separate queues for male and female devotees. For security reasons, more than 100 police personnel have been deployed in and around the temple premises.

On the first Monday of Shravan month, devotees anointed Lord Shiva with Gangaajal and Panchamrit. Outside the temples, shops selling puja materials including belpatra, dhatura, bhang, milk, curd, ghee, honey, and sugar were crowded from the morning. A large number of young men and women also reached the temple to seek the blessings of Lord Shiva.

Since morning, a huge crowd of devotees gathered at Achaleshwar Mahadev, Koteshwar Mahadev, Gupteshwar Mahadev, Chakleshwar, Bhuteshwar, Markandeshwar Mahadev located in Phoolbagh, and Kalikeshwar Nag Temple located in CP Colony. Temple committees have made special arrangements for Abhishek (ritual bathing) and Darshan (viewing).

Sawan Mela to be held at Dhoomeswar Dham

A special fair is also being organized on the first Monday of Sawan at the ancient Dhoomeswar Dham, located at the confluence of the Sindh and Parvati rivers in Bhitarwar block. Thousands of devotees will bathe and perform Jalabhishek (offering water) to Lord Shiva at this temple, located about 75 kilometers from Gwalior.

Tight security arrangements

Considering the huge crowd of devotees, the police administration has deployed additional police force at all major Shiva temples. Checking points have been set up around the temples, while a separate police force has been deployed to manage traffic, so that the darshan system remains smooth.
