In Narmadapuram district, after 20 days of a snake bite in Jheel Pipariya village, Radha Bai is now healthy. She was bitten by a snake five times in two minutes. Initially, she was taken for traditional healing rituals.
When her condition worsened, she was taken to the hospital. Here, doctors saved her life by administering 10 anti-snake venom (ASV) injections in 40 minutes and 35 in 24 hours. An operation also had to be performed on her finger, which was swollen due to the venom’s effect.
She has also been discharged from the district hospital. The Dainik Bhaskar team reached the village, about 20 kilometres from the headquarters. Here, they spoke to Radha Bai, her husband Sukhrat, and Dr. Devendra Ahirwar to understand the entire incident.
The woman stated that she was bitten by the snake while cleaning

Radhabai Ahirwar, a resident of Jheel Pipariya, stated that it was around 12:30 PM on July 13. After cooking, she was sweeping the kitchen of her house. She saw a black snake, about five feet long, sitting among the utensils in the cupboard.
Before she could comprehend anything, it suddenly bit her right palm first. As soon as she shook her hand, it bit her again. In this manner, it bit her five times on her hand and palm within one and a half to two minutes. Every time she shook her hand, the snake attacked again. She fainted and fell there.
First traditional gealing then hospital
Her husband, Sukhram, said that instead of taking Radhabai to the hospital, they went for traditional healing in the village. They reached the traditional healer around 1 PM. He immediately gave up, indicating he couldn’t help.
Meanwhile, the poison was also showing its effect. Her eyes became heavy and she started having difficulty breathing. The family took her to Pipariya Civil Hospital around 2:10 PM. Treatment also began.
Duty Dr. Devendra Thakur said that by the time the woman reached the hospital, her eyes were closed, and the poison was rapidly spreading in her body. She was also having difficulty breathing.

According to Dr. Thakur, seeing the critical condition of the patient at 2:50 minutes, 10 anti-snake venom injections were administered in the first 40 minutes. A total of 35 injections were given in the next 24 hours. These included 25 anti-snake venom (ASV) and 10 atropine injections.
After treatment, the woman’s condition improved. However, due to the effect of the poison, one finger of her hand remained swollen. After this, she was referred to the district hospital, where an operation was performed.
Work stopped, family sought help
Radhabai’s husband, Sukhram Ahirwar, works as a labourer. The family has a daughter who studies in fifth grade. After the incident, Radhabai is unable to go to work, which has affected the family’s financial situation. The couple has requested financial assistance from the administration.

Doctors said Don’t waste time on traditional remedies
Dr. Devendra Thakur said that incidents of snakes appearing increase during the rainy season. In such a situation, one should be careful while cleaning the house or removing old items.

- The patient’s life can be saved by administering Anti-Snake Venom (ASV).
