A snake rescuer died after being bitten by a cobra during a rescue operation in Mandla district. His companion took him to the Bichhiya Community Health Centre, where he received initial treatment before being referred to the district hospital and later Jabalpur Medical College.
The incident took place in Dungra village on Monday. The rescuer, identified as 25-year-old Aman Gohiya, died during treatment on Tuesday morning.
A video of Aman rescuing the snake has also surfaced.
Snake escaped from broken box and bit rescuer
Aman had gone with a companion to rescue a snake in a village located around six kilometres from Bichhiya.
According to Aman’s statement at the hospital, after completing the rescue, he was trying to put the snake inside a plastic box. However, the box was broken at the back, allowing the snake to escape.
The cobra then bit Aman on his leg. He initially felt pain only in the affected leg and, as a precaution, went to the hospital with his friend.
Condition deteriorated despite treatment
Aman was first taken to the Bichhiya Community Health Centre and later referred to Mandla District Hospital.
Mandla District Hospital Civil Surgeon Dr Vijay Dhurve said Aman was treated under the supervision of MD Medicine specialist Dr Mohsin.
Despite being administered life-saving medicines, his condition remained critical. Doctors advised shifting him to a medical college for further treatment.
However, according to the civil surgeon, Aman’s family did not take him to the medical college. He died at the district hospital during treatment on Tuesday morning.
