Today is the 13th day of Parliament’s Monsoon Session. Both Houses have witnessed repeated disruptions since July 31 over the theft of donations from the Ram Mandir, which is likely to continue today.
On Tuesday, the Taxation and Other Laws (Amendment) Bill was passed by the Lok Sabha. Eight Bills were listed for this session, of which three have now been cleared by both Houses—the Vande Mataram Bill, the Public Examinations (Amendment) Bill (paper leak), and the Supreme Court (Number of Judges) Amendment Bill.
The Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Bill, Income Tax (Amendment) Bill, MSME Development (Amendment) Bill, Foreign Contribution (FCRA) Amendment Bill, and the Viksit Bharat Shiksha Adhishthan Bill are yet to receive Parliament’s approval. The government may attempt to pass these Bills in both Houses today.
Earlier, a heated exchange took place in the Rajya Sabha between Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju. Kharge said the Centre had constituted the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust and handed over more than 70 acres of land to it.
He added that the Prime Minister had attended every major Ram Mandir event and questioned the absence of the ED, CBI and other central agencies in the donation theft case.
Responding to him, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said the Congress and the Samajwadi Party had opposed the construction of the Ram Mandir by wearing black bands, and accused them of now shedding “crocodile tears” to mislead the country.
