Bollywood actor Salman Khan has teamed up with the NGO Global Sikhs to rehabilitate flood-affected families. According to reports, Salman has decided to build 500 semi-permanent homes for people displaced by the floods.
Salman’s organization, Being Human, has previously helped deliver food and relief materials to the needy in flood-affected areas. Now, in the second phase of the relief operation, the focus is on the permanent rehabilitation of the affected families.
220 semi-permanent homes ready so far
According to a Mid-Day report, approximately 220 semi-permanent homes have been built so far in Nepali Khuti village in Sivasagar district, one of Assam’s most affected areas. These homes are being constructed with bamboo and tin roofs, designed keeping in mind the conditions of flood-affected regions.
According to the report, the rehabilitation plan was already part of the NGO’s relief efforts. However, when Salman Khan saw actor Randeep Hooda doing relief work on the spot, he decided to join the campaign.
Cost of one house: ₹35,000 to ₹40,000
The report, citing sources, states that Randeep Hooda informed Salman about Global Sikhs’ relief campaign, in which about 70 volunteers were working. Following this, the founder of the organization, Amarpreet Singh, told Salman that each semi-permanent house costs ₹35,000 to ₹40,000 rupees to build. After this, Salman Khan decided to collaborate with the organization to build 500 houses.
Amarpreet Singh said – Salman said, ‘You people don’t worry’
Regarding the relief operation, Amarpreet Singh told Mid-Day, “Salman Khan spoke to us a few days ago and said – You people don’t worry. 220 houses are ready and are being handed over to the affected families. Our team can build eight to ten houses in a day.”
Randeep Hooda said – Humanity is above all
Meanwhile, actor Randeep Hooda is also continuously active in relief work. He told the media that a large number of flood-affected families have taken shelter at Shivsagar railway station and surrounding areas.
Randeep said, For the past seven days, we have been continuously preparing food for the affected people and delivering it to them. Humanity comes first. I have been working with Global Sikhs for many years, and they have done excellent work at the grassroots level. I appeal to all people to help those in need according to their capacity. Bollywood celebrities have once again come forward to help those affected by the devastating floods in Assam in 2026. Actresses Alia Bhatt, Bhumi Pednekar, singer Guru Randhawa, and actress Raashii Khanna have appealed to people to assist the flood victims.
Alia Bhatt wrote on social media, “Many parts of our country are currently grappling with severe floods. Among them, Assam is one of the most affected states, going through an extremely difficult period. More than 60 lives have been lost.”
“This happens every year, yet every time we are unprepared for it. Assam needs immediate help right now, and continuous support will also be required for rehabilitation for a long time to come. If you are wondering how you can help, in the next few days, I will share ways through which we can contribute to relief efforts via organizations working at the grassroots level.”
