Playback singer Kumar Sanu has revealed his experiences with the underworld in the 90s. In an interview given to Lallantop, Kumar Sanu told that music directors Nadeem and Anu Malik had taken him to sing at a birthday party in Dubai, where underworld don Dawood Ibrahim was also present.
Later when pictures were published in newspapers, he understood the seriousness of the matter. Apart from this, he had also sung at gangster Abu Salem’s show. Despite police warnings and threats of arrest, he went to sing citing his compulsion.

To this, Sanu said that he is a singer and singing is his compulsion, so the police should provide him security. Even without getting security, he went, performed and returned safely.

Sanu spoke about underworld funding in Bollywood Regarding the connection between Bollywood and the underworld in the 90s, Kumar Sanu said that during that era, most of the film funding came from the underworld. Whoever invested the money ruled the industry.
Sanu said that he never tried to delve too deep into these matters and always kept himself away from such issues. He only focused on his work, which is why he remained safe and no one’s attention fell on him.

Kumar Sanu started his career with the Bangladeshi film ‘Teen Kanya’. However, the credit for bringing Sanu to Hindi films goes to Jagjit Singh. He offered Kumar Sanu to sing a song in the film ‘Aandhiyan’. Jagjit Singh introduced him to Kalyanji Anand and it was at his suggestion that he changed his name from Kedarnath Bhattacharya to Kumar Sanu.
Sanu has sung around 20 thousand songs. He has sung many excellent songs like ‘Dil Ka Aalam…’ (film ‘Aashiqui’, 1990), ‘Dil Ka Rishta..’ (film ‘Dil Ka Rishta’, 2003), ‘Raja Ko Rani Se…’ (film ‘Akele Hum Akele Tum’, 1995), ‘Pardesi Pardesi…’ (film ‘Raja Hindustani’, 1996). Sanu has sung songs in about 75 films for music director duo Nadeem-Shravan. Apart from this, he has sung songs in 60 films for Anu Malik, 30 films for Jatin-Lalit and 25 films for Rajesh Roshan.
