A fresh firecracker blast in Champahati has created panic in the area, with two people reportedly injured. The injured were taken to hospital in critical condition, according to preliminary information.
Two people injured in explosion
One of the injured has been identified as 52-year-old Padmarani Naskar, who is reportedly a relative of Bapi Naskar. The other injured person has been identified as Abbas Gazi.
According to local residents, Bapi Naskar allegedly ran an illegal firecracker manufacturing operation from a room built inside a forested area away from the locality, while operating a fish business as a front. The blast is suspected to have occurred inside that room.

Illegal fireworks unit suspected behind blast
A large police team, led by Atish Biswas, Additional Superintendent of Police, Baruipur Police District, reached the spot after receiving information about the blast. Local residents alleged that the fire brigade reached the spot late.

Police begin probe into explosion
Police from Baruipur Police Station are investigating how the blast occurred and how firecracker manufacturing was allegedly being carried out at the location. A detailed investigation has been launched, including into the allegations of illegal firecracker manufacturing and whether others were involved.
