The low-budget film Hanuman Ansh, based on the life of Neem Karoli Baba, is making waves at the box office. Made on a budget of just ₹2 crore, the film has surpassed the earnings of Yash’s much-talked-about ₹500-crore film Toxic on its seventh day.
According to Sacnilk data, Hanuman Ansh collected ₹8.50 crore in India on its 26th day, while Toxic earned ₹7.85 crore on its seventh day.
After a slow start, Hanuman Ansh has earned a net collection of ₹54.13 crore in India in 26 days, driven by positive word of mouth and a strong audience response.
From a ₹10-lakh opening to ₹54 crore
Directed by Vishal Chaturvedi, Hanuman Ansh was released in theatres on 7 August 2026. The film opened with just ₹10 lakh on its first day and earned ₹1.48 crore in its first two weeks.
However, its fortunes changed on the 17th day, when it collected ₹2.20 crore in a single day. From its third week onwards, the film saw a sharp rise in collections, earning ₹10.40 crore in the third week alone.
According to Sacnilk data, Hanuman Ansh has now recorded a total gross collection of ₹63.82 crore in India.

‘Hanuman Ansh’ beats ‘Toxic’ in Hindi collections
The real turnaround at the box office came on the 25th day of Hanuman Ansh, when the film earned ₹5.50 crore in the Hindi belt. In comparison, Yash-starrer Toxic collected ₹4.40 crore in the Hindi belt on its sixth day, a Monday.
Directed by Geetu Mohandas, Toxic opened to a record ₹101.10 crore worldwide on its first day and recorded a net collection of ₹214.10 crore over its opening weekend. However, its collections saw a sharp decline thereafter.
‘Hanuman Ansh’ sees a rise despite fewer shows
There was also a significant difference in the number of shows for the two films. Toxic was released on a large scale across India with 24,579 shows. However, due to weak word of mouth, the number of shows fell to 13,400 by its sixth day — a decline of around 45.4%.
In contrast, Hanuman Ansh began with just 300 shows, but the number steadily increased as audience demand grew. By its 26th day, the film was running in 7,008 shows across the country.
Despite having fewer shows than Toxic, Hanuman Ansh continued to record stronger collections, highlighting its growing audience response.
‘Hanuman Ansh’ survives big-film clashes to make a box-office turnaround
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh called the film’s box-office performance historic. He said, “If you look at the collection from the first day until now, especially in the third week and fourth weekend, it is historic. This is rarely seen.”
He added that the film benefited from strong word of mouth. “The content is definitely there, but the film benefited from word of mouth. If there is negative publicity, the impact is seen by the second or third day. But if the reviews are positive, the film succeeds. This is exactly what happened with Hanu-Man.”
According to Adarsh, the film was close to being pulled from theatres in its second week, when it was earning only around ₹40 lakh. Even its first-week collections were not particularly strong.
Despite clashes with big films, how did ‘Hanuman Ansh’ retain its screens?
When Hanuman Ansh was released on 7 August, it received a limited number of screens. With the release of Aawaravan 2 and Bantwara 1947 on 14 August, its screen count was reduced further. As the film’s earnings were also initially low, theatres began dropping its shows.
However, the film continued to run in several cinemas. Explaining how it managed to retain screens, Taran Adarsh said, “The film’s producers requested the distributors to somehow keep the film running into the third week. The distributors said that Toxic was coming and the film would be taken down anyway. But the producers insisted — please, run it somehow.”

Hanuman Ansh has been directed by 42-year-old Vishal Chaturvedi and is the biggest film of his career so far. Before entering the film industry, Chaturvedi worked as a doctor.
This is his second film as a director. He previously directed the 2012 film Warning. He has also worked as a dialogue writer for television series and films.

Along with acting, he has worked in the assistant director, second unit director, script, and continuity departments.
