Shakti Kapoor was born on September 3, 1952, in Delhi. His real name is Sunil Sikanderlal Kapoor.
Shakti Kapoor, who has played memorable villain and comic roles in several hit films, turns 74 today. With a career spanning more than 700 films, he has enjoyed remarkable success in the industry. His personal life is equally interesting. Shakti married actress Shivangi Kolhapure, whom he met while working on Kismat.
On The Kapil Sharma Show, Shakti recalled being instantly struck by Shivangi’s beauty. He admitted that he flirted with her and soon decided that if he ever married, it would be the “Marathi girl”. The two initially became friends, and their friendship eventually blossomed into love.
Shivangi Kolhapure worked as an actress in only one film (Kismat). However, in her youth, she lent her voice to many films, including Yaadon Ki Baaraat (1973) and Barood (1976).
The family was against the relationship
When the two met, Shakti Kapoor was about 30 years old and Shivangi was just 18. Apart from this, Shakti Kapoor often played villainous roles in films. For this reason, Shivangi’s parents were strictly against this relationship.
When the two talked about marriage, Shivangi’s family locked her in a room. After all avenues to convince the family were closed, Shivangi decided to run away from home and marry Shakti Kapoor.
Court marriage in 1982
In the year 1982, the two ran away and had a court marriage. Initially, Shakti Kapoor’s family was also a bit hesitant, but when they found out that Shivangi belonged to the family of the famous singer Lata Mangeshkar, they agreed.
After the marriage, Shivangi’s parents remained angry with her for many years. However, after the birth of their elder son Siddhanth Kapoor and later daughter Shraddha Kapoor, the bitterness between the two families ended. Shivangi’s parents also fully accepted this relationship.
It was written in the newspaper – they will get divorced in 3 months
On Kapil Sharma’s show, Shakti Kapoor revealed that after his marriage, it was reported in the newspaper that he would get divorced within 3 months. However, nothing of the sort happened. Meanwhile, Shakti’s father-in-law came to him and said, “I have never seen a son-in-law like you; I am very proud of you.”
Shakti and Shivangi had two children, son Siddhanth Kapoor (born July 6, 1984) and daughter Shraddha Kapoor (born March 3, 1987).
Shakti Kapoor’s wife, Shivangi Kolhapure (elder sister of actress Padmini Kolhapure), is a relative (niece) of the legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar.
Let us tell you that the mother of Shivangi Kolhapure’s father, Pandit Pandharinath Kolhapure, was the stepsister of Lata Mangeshkar’s father, Pandit Deenanath Mangeshkar. In this relation, Shivangi’s father, Pandharinath ji, was the cousin of Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle.

Shakti Kapoor made his Bollywood debut in 1977 with the film ‘Khel Khiladi Ka’. In the initial phase, he received many small roles, but his villainous characters in ‘Qurbani’ and ‘Rocky’ brought him recognition. After this, he also played negative roles in films like ‘Himmatwala’ and ‘Hero’.
Shakti Kapoor studied at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII).
In the 1990s, Shakti Kapoor expanded his acting range and carved a special niche for himself in comedy. The character of Nandu in ‘Raja Babu’ is among his most memorable roles.
He received the Filmfare Best Comedian Award for this role. His characters in films like ‘Crime Master Gogo’ in ‘Andaz Apna Apna’, ‘Chaalbaaz’, ‘Insaaf’, ‘Baap Numbri Beta Dus Numbri’, and ‘Bol Radha Bol’ were also very popular.
