A section of railway track near New Farakka station in Murshidabad reportedly caved in early Thursday following hours of heavy rainfall, disrupting train movement in the region.
Railway officials begin immediate restoration work
According to railway sources, the Up line near the entrance to the Farakka Barrage, while travelling from South Bengal towards North Bengal, was affected after the ground beneath the tracks weakened. Preliminary assessments suggest that continuous rainfall softened the soil, leading to the track subsidence.
Several major trains face movement disruptions
Railway officials immediately reached the spot and began repair work. Restoration efforts have been underway since morning to repair the damaged section and resume normal train services.
Passengers advised to follow railway instructions
The track damage has affected the movement of several important trains. According to railway officials, services including the Jogbani Express, Gour Express and Darjeeling Mail have been held up, causing inconvenience to passengers. Waiting situations were reported at the station and on different railway sections.
Meanwhile, railway authorities are using an alternative single-line route to maintain train movement as far as possible while repair work continues on the damaged Up line.
