Monsoon rains have caused rivers to swell in Uttar Pradesh. Flood-like conditions prevail in 26 districts. The India Meteorological Department issued a rain alert for 70 districts on Monday.
Several districts of Uttarakhand received intermittent rain on Sunday. A passenger died after being hit by rocks that continued to fall from a hillside at Chirbasa on the Kedarnath route. The incident took place at around 11:15 a.m., following which the movement of passengers travelling from Gaurikund to Kedarnath and returning from there has been halted as a safety measure.
Flood conditions continue to prevail in several districts of Bihar. A population of 44 lakh in 2,360 villages across 14 districts is surrounded by floodwaters. Eight rivers in the state are flowing above the danger mark.
