A controversy has erupted over a remark made by South Indian actor Vijay Sethupathi on Bigg Boss Tamil 10. While hosting the show, he spoke about political leadership and promises without naming anyone.
Viewers and social media users interpreted his comments as a reference to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and TVK chief Vijay Joseph. After TVK supporters protested, the show’s makers issued a clarification on social media, stating that the remarks were not related to politics outside the show.

In a recently aired episode, host Vijay Sethupathi spoke to contestant Shathiga about the show’s new democracy room format and the responsibilities of a leader.
Sethupathi said that making promises without thinking and later blaming the opposition when problems arise is not leadership, but amounts to betraying the people.
He did not name any leader or political party. However, social media users interpreted the remarks as a jibe at Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and TVK chief Vijay. His supporters alleged that a television show’s platform was being used for political commentary.
Makers issued a clarification on social media
As the uproar intensified, the channel and the show’s makers issued an official statement on X. They clarified that it is purely an entertainment show. The conversations and situations featured in the show are part of the game’s format and should be understood in that context.
The makers said that nothing said on the show was intended to comment on or endorse any external person, organisation, institution or political ideology.
Vijay Sethupathi’s ‘Maharaja’ to get a Hollywood remake
Meanwhile, for the first time in the history of Tamil cinema, a film is set to receive an official Hollywood remake. Vijay Sethupathi’s 2024 crime thriller ‘Maharaja’ will now be remade in Hollywood.
The film’s producer, Sudhan Sundaram, confirmed this in an interview with The Times of India. He said that a Hollywood agency had approached them for the remake rights after the film’s outstanding performance at the Chinese box office. The film earned around ₹91.65 crore in China.
Shooting for the Hollywood project is expected to begin next year. There are reports that talks are underway with Oscar-winning actor Matthew McConaughey for the remake, although this is yet to be officially confirmed.

Anurag Kashyap played the main antagonist alongside Vijay Sethupathi in the film. Meanwhile, actress Sachana Namidass, who played Sethupathi’s daughter, received the National Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in the film.
