A Bangladeshi national who had been working as an Indian citizen using forged documents has been arrested at the Ezhimala Naval Academy in Kerala.

The arrested accused has been identified as 32-year-old Biplab Soren. He was a contract worker in the academy’s laundry section.

Naval officers questioned him at around 8:15 p.m. on Friday night. After checking his documents, they handed him over to the police. According to preliminary information, he had been living in India without valid documents.

Questioned after officers became suspicious of his behaviour

Naval officers had become suspicious of Biplab’s behaviour. They then kept him under surveillance before taking him into custody and questioning him.

During the investigation, documents and information found on his mobile phone indicated that he was a Bangladeshi national. The naval officers then questioned him and verified his documents.

Had been at the academy for around a year

Biplab Soren had been working as a contract worker at a sensitive defence institution for about a year. Questions have been raised over the security arrangements after his nationality could not be ascertained.

Investigating agencies are now trying to find out how Biplab obtained forged documents and gained entry to the sensitive defence institution.

Person who secured his employment also under investigation

Officials are also investigating how long he had been working at the academy. They are looking into who arranged his employment and whether the incident had any wider implications for security.

The arrest was made on the basis of information received from intelligence agencies. The action took place amid an ongoing police operation against Bangladeshi nationals living without documents in various parts of Kannur district. Women are also among those detained in the operation.
