<\/picture><\/div>\nCongress leader Meenakshi Natarajan has challenged the outcome of the Madhya Pradesh Rajya Sabha election by filing an election petition before the Madhya Pradesh High Court.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n Addressing the media in Jabalpur on Tuesday, Natarajan said she had filed the petition within the statutory 45-day deadline and hoped the matter would be heard soon.<\/p>\n She alleged that the Election Commission official’s decision to reject her election claim was “completely wrong” and claimed her objections were dismissed on the basis of an issue that was never formally taken up for consideration.<\/p>\n “I have full faith in the judiciary and expect justice from the High Court,” she said.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Nomination was earlier rejected; Supreme Court suggested election petition<\/strong><\/p>\n The Congress had fielded Meenakshi Natarajan for the third Rajya Sabha seat from Madhya Pradesh, despite having sufficient numbers to contest.<\/p>\n However, her nomination was rejected on June 9.<\/p>\n She subsequently approached the Supreme Court, challenging the rejection. The apex court dismissed her plea, stating that the matter could not be heard through a writ petition and advised her to file an election petition instead if she wished to challenge the decision.<\/p>\n Following the dismissal, Natarajan had remarked, \u201cEarlier votes were stolen; this time, a seat was stolen.\u201d<\/p>\n Natarajan slams centre over Jantar Mantar incident<\/strong><\/p>\n Referring to Monday’s incident at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, Natarajan sharply criticised the Central government.<\/p>\n She described the day as “a black day in the country’s history,” alleging that female students were subjected to a brutal police baton charge.<\/p>\n She accused the government of attempting to suppress every public movement and of branding protesters as terrorists.<\/p>\n “The country’s youth are fighting for the nation’s interests, not against the nation. The lathi-charge on students is highly condemnable,” she said.<\/p>\n Natarajan added that, much like during the freedom movement, young people were once again fighting for their rights and claimed the time had come for the government’s words and actions to be judged.<\/p>\n Vivek Tankha questions government over Sonam Wangchuk’s fast<\/strong><\/p>\n Rajya Sabha MP Vivek Tankha also criticised the Centre over the Jantar Mantar incident and the ongoing indefinite fast by activist Sonam Wangchuk.<\/p>\n In a post on social media platform X, Tankha said that if the government failed to end Wangchuk’s hunger strike, it would represent the collective failure of Parliament, the government and the judiciary.<\/p>\n He wrote that if any harm came to Wangchuk, it would be a failure of the country’s democratic system.<\/p>\n “In such a situation, at least I would not like to continue as a Member of Parliament,” Tankha said.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Congress leader Meenakshi Natarajan has challenged the outcome of the Madhya Pradesh Rajya Sabha election by filing an election petition before the Madhya Pradesh High Court.
