Discussion on the Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, aimed at tackling examination paper leaks, began in the Lok Sabha on today. Eight hours have been allotted for the debate. During the proceedings, the Treasury and Opposition benches clashed on several occasions.<\/p>\n

BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj recited a poem by Dushyant Kumar during her speech, while Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi quoted poet Gopaldas Neeraj. Another heated moment came when TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee began speaking, prompting loud protests in the House.<\/p>\n

Amid the uproar, TMC MP Mahua Moitra stood up and urged the Chair to intervene, saying, “Stop him, let there be charcha<\/em>, charcha (discussion).”<\/p>\n

According to reports, she used the word in a way that was perceived as mimicking Union Minister Kiren Rijiju and the presiding officer, BJP MP Dilip Saikia, both of whom are from the Northeast. Some members claimed she was mocking their pronunciation.<\/p>\n

Dilip Saikia, who was presiding over the House at the time, asked Moitra to take her seat and told her, “Don’t shout.”<\/p>\n
