An alert for extremely heavy rainfall has been issued for 5 districts of Madhya Pradesh Balaghat, Seoni, Chhindwara, Narmadapuram, and Raisen on Wednesday. Here, 4 inches of rain may fall in the next 24 hours, while there are 10 districts where heavy rainfall is predicted. These include Dewas, Sehore, Harda, Betul, Pandhurna, Sagar, Narsinghpur, Damoh, Jabalpur, and Chhatarpur.<\/p>\n

Weather expert Shailendra Kumar Nayak informed that a monsoon trough and a cyclonic circulation system (cyclone) are passing over the state. Meanwhile, another cyclone is in the western part.<\/p>\n

Due to this, a strong system is active. It will move forward through Odisha, South Jharkhand, and North Chhattisgarh, causing heavy rainfall in the eastern and central parts of Madhya Pradesh. After this, it is likely to gradually weaken and transform into a depression and then a low-pressure area.<\/p>\n

Rain expected in these districts today as well<\/strong> According to the Meteorological Department, on Wednesday, heavy to light rain will occur in Bhopal, Rajgarh, Vidisha, Indore, Jhabua, Alirajpur, Dhar, Burhanpur, Barwani, Khandwa, Khargone, Ujjain, Neemuch, Mandsaur, Ratlam, Agar-Malwa, Shajapur, Gwalior, Sheopur, Morena, Bhind, Datia, Shivpuri, Guna, Ashoknagar, Katni, Mandla, Dindori, Rewa, Satna, Sidhi, Singrauli, Mauganj, Maihar, Shahdol, Umaria, Anuppur, Panna, Tikamgarh and Niwari.<\/p>\n

Heavy rain in many districts<\/strong><\/p>\n

Earlier on Tuesday, heavy rain was recorded in many districts of the state. In Bhopal, the situation remained a mix of sun, clouds, and light rain since morning. Heavy rain fell in Morena. The weather also changed in many districts during the night.<\/p>\n

Hope for improvement in the rain situation<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to the Meteorological Department, the state has received an average of 13.6 inches (345.9 mm)<\/strong> of rain so far, while it should have received 16.5 inches (418.4 mm). Thus, there has been a deficit of 2.9 inches, or 17 per cent, less rain. On the other hand, 18 per cent less rain has been recorded in the eastern part and 17 per cent less in the western part. This situation may improve with continuous rain.<\/p>\n

Impact of new system till August 1<\/strong> Weather expert Nayak said that the currently active system will remain effective till August 1. During this period, very heavy rain may also occur in many districts.<\/p>\n

Below average rainfall in these 47 districts<\/strong><\/p>\n

Anuppur, Balaghat, Chhatarpur, Chhindwara, Damoh, Dindori, Jabalpur, Katni, Maihar, Mandla, Mauganj, Narsinghpur, Niwari, Pandhurna, Panna, Rewa, Sagar, Satna, Seoni, Shahdol, Sidhi, Singrauli, Tikamgarh, Umaria, Agar-Malwa, Alirajpur, Ashoknagar, Barwani, Betul, Datia, Dhar, Guna, Gwalior, Harda, Jhabua, Khandwa, Khargone, Morena, Narmadapuram, Neemuch, Raisen, Ratlam, Shajapur, Sheopur, Shivpuri, Ujjain and Vidisha.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, 8 districts – Bhopal, Bhind, Burhanpur, Dewas, Indore, Mandsaur, Rajgarh and Sehore – have received above-average rainfall. Dewas has received 29% more rainfall.<\/p>\n

Figures remain low in July, following June<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to the Meteorological Department, June saw less rainfall, but heavy rains in the initial days of July increased it. Later, due to no heavy rain for 9 consecutive days, the figure has been in the negative for the fourth consecutive day.<\/p>\n

It is worth noting that this month accounts for one-third of the entire monsoon’s rainfall. For example, if Bhopal has 39 inches of normal rainfall, 14 inches of rain occurs in July.<\/p>\n

Among major cities, Jabalpur is the only one where more than 17 inches of rain occurs. In the month of July alone, the state receives up to 40 percent of its quota of rainfall.<\/p>\n

The normal rainfall of the state is 37.3 inches. The normal rainfall for Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, and Gwalior districts ranges from 38 to 39 inches.<\/p>\n

Indore records 11.5 inches of rain in 24 hours<\/strong> Talking about Indore, there is a record of 11.5 inches of rain in 24 hours, which occurred on July 27, 1913. In the year 1973, 30.5 inches of water fell throughout the month. Due to rain, a drop in temperature is also observed here.<\/p>\n

Indore’s average monthly rainfall is 12 inches. On average, it rains here for 13 days.<\/p>\n

Bhopal records 41 inches of rain<\/strong> The capital Bhopal receives heavy rainfall in July. There is a record of about 1031.4 mm, or 41 inches, of rain in a single month here. This occurred in the year 1986. On July 22, 1973, 11 inches of rain fell in a single day, which is still a record.<\/p>\n

Talking about rainy days in Bhopal, it rains for an average of 15 days in July. That is, it rains every other day. The average monthly rainfall is 367.7 mm, or 14.4 inches. Due to rain, the daytime temperature remains below 30 degrees and the nighttime temperature below 25 degrees.<\/p>\n

Record for the highest rainfall in Jabalpur<\/strong><\/p>\n

Among the four major cities, Jabalpur is where the most rain occurs. In 1930, approximately 45 inches of rain fell, while on July 30, 1915, the highest 24-hour rainfall was 13.5 inches. Last year, July saw more than 13 inches of rain. The highest rainfall was recorded in 2013 and 2016.<\/p>\n

Jabalpur’s normal rainfall in July is 17 inches. It rains 15 to 16 days in the month.<\/p>\n

Less than 8 inches of rain 6 times in Gwalior<\/strong><\/p>\n

Gwalior receives the least rainfall compared to Bhopal, Indore, and Jabalpur. In the last 10 years, it has rained less than 8 inches 6 times, whereas the average rainfall here is around 9 inches. Gwalior recorded its highest monthly rainfall in the year 1935. Then 623.3 mm, or 24.5 inches of rain, was recorded.<\/p>\n

Talking about the highest rainfall in 24 hours, on July 12, 2015, 190.6 mm, or 7.5 inches of water, was recorded. In Gwalior, it rains for an average of 11 days in the month of July.<\/p>\n

Ujjain receives heavy rainfall<\/strong> Like other cities in the state, Ujjain also receives heavy rainfall in July. About 40 per cent of its quota of rain occurs in this month.<\/p>\n
