But the post-mortem report revealed that her death was not due to the fall, but due to suffocation first.

Signs of struggle were found in the hotel room, and three young men were seen on CCTV. Police investigation was ongoing, but it was not yet clear who these killers were. And why was this murder committed? Now read on for the answers to these questions-

Police first started questioning the hotel staff. Waiter Kunal Mehta said that on the evening of August 7, between 4 and 5 PM, he went to room number 418 with an order for crispy corn.

Shilpu had stayed in this room. When the door opened, three young men were inside. Three glasses of whiskey were on the table and snacks had been served. A few hours later, around 7 to 8 PM, when he returned to the room with another order. Then a young woman was also present there with the same three young men.

Booking details led to the three youths

The hotel’s booking details were retrieved. It was found that on August 7, the room was booked in the name of Neeraj Dandotiya. By matching CCTV footage and hotel records, the three youths were identified.

These youths were Ashutosh Johare, Neeraj Dandotiya, and Shailendra Saraswat. All three were residents of Gwalior. Ashutosh was Shilpu’s boyfriend and was living in Indore, while Neeraj and Shailendra had come from Gwalior to meet him.

Brought her to the hotel on the pretext of tea

The investigation revealed that on August 7, 2016, Shilpu had gone shopping with a friend. In the evening, Ashutosh brought her to the hotel located in Tukoganj on the pretext of having tea. But Ashutosh was not alone in the room.

Both his friends were already present there. After some time, a fourth person also came into the room. This young man was Rajendra, who was a tattoo artist by profession.

Tattoo Artist Became the Most Important Witness

During police interrogation, Rajendra stated that he had met Ashutosh and Shilpu before. He had made a tattoo on Ashutosh’s hand. On August 7, Ashutosh called him to the hotel. When he reached the room, Shilpu and the three young men were present there.

Ashutosh misled the receptionist

He told the receptionist that the young woman in the room suddenly felt dizzy and fell down. He also stated that apart from him, two other people were present in the room.

By now, it was almost clear that these three young men were in the room with Shilpu at the time of the incident. But how did she die? That was the biggest question.

The three accused narrated this story

Bottles of liquor had been opened in room number 418. Glasses were filled. Cigarette smoke filled the entire room. Initially, the atmosphere was like a normal party. As the evening progressed, the situation began to change. Shilpu was pressured to drink alcohol. She initially refused.

Post-mortem revealed the true story

The post-mortem report confirmed the presence of alcohol in Shilpu’s stomach. This means either she drank alcohol, or she was forced to drink it. After this, the police’s suspicion deepened. According to investigating agencies, the dispute in the room escalated while intoxicated.

After this, Shilpu wanted to leave. She was stopped. The matter escalated from an argument to a physical altercation. According to the prosecution, during this time, the three accused together strangled her.

Suicide story concocted again

According to investigating agencies, the biggest question before the accused after the death was how to hide the murder?

The biggest evidence was hidden in the nails

The post-mortem revealed signs of struggle on Shilpu’s body. Microscopic particles of the accused’s skin were found inside her nails. These were considered important evidence in the forensic investigation. During the investigation, the DNA of the accused Neeraj Dandotiya was also found in the scientific examination of the condom recovered from the crime scene and the room. 29 witnesses and the court’s verdict

There was no video of the murder in this case. Nor was there any eyewitness who had seen the entire incident with their own eyes. But the police prepared a strong chain of circumstantial evidence. Statements of about 29 witnesses were recorded.

The testimonies of tattoo artists, hotel staff, forensic experts, and other witnesses connected the sequence of events. The hearing was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Finally, on April 24, 2026, the Indore court pronounced its verdict.

The court held that it was not a case of suicide, but a pre-planned murder. Ashutosh Johre, Neeraj Dandotiya, and Shailendra Saraswat were convicted of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment. Along with this, all three were also sentenced to an additional seven years of imprisonment for the crime of destroying evidence.

Neeraj Pandey, Bhopal23 minutes ago In the first part of Madhya Pradesh Crime Files, you read that the death of 23-year-old Shilpu Bhadauria, who fell from the fourth floor of a hotel in Indore, was initially considered a suicide.
