During takeoff preparations, the cabin temperature kept rising and passengers were drenched in sweat.

The flight was cancelled after passengers protested. Following this, passengers remained stranded at the airport for over six hours. They were taken to Pune on a replacement flight on Wednesday morning.

Flight SG-105 was scheduled to depart from Terminal-1 of Indira Gandhi International Airport at 9:45 PM. It was first delayed until 10:30 PM. Passengers boarded the aircraft around 10:30 PM, after which the problems began.

Temperature in cabin kept rising before takeoff

Leshpal Jawalge, National Sports Coordinator of Sarhad NGO and a passenger, was also on board the aircraft. He told The Indian Express that after boarding the aircraft, it became suffocating due to the AC malfunction.

Jawalge said, “The aircraft was moving towards the runway and we hoped the AC would start soon, but that didn’t happen. Even after waiting for some time, the AC didn’t start.”

During the aircraft’s taxiing, the cabin temperature continuously increased. According to Javalge, within a short time, passengers were completely drenched in sweat. He said that the cabin crew was also distressed, but the pilots were preparing for takeoff.

After this, the blowers inside the aircraft were turned on, but hot air started coming from them. Javalge said that there were pregnant women, children, and elderly people on the aircraft, who faced the most difficulty.

Pregnant woman’s health deteriorated, passengers stopped takeoff

Javalge reported that a pregnant woman aboard the aircraft started feeling faint. Children began crying, after which passengers protested and demanded that the flight not be allowed to depart.

Following the protest, the takeoff was cancelled. At that time, approximately 150 passengers were aboard the aircraft.

Passengers were deboarded from the aircraft and a technical team was called for inspection. Javalge said, “The team informed that the problem would be fixed in 20 minutes. But we kept waiting on the apron until around 2 AM at night.”

He said that around 2 AM, the technical team informed about a technical problem in the aircraft and the flight was cancelled.

Passengers alleged non-provision of food and rude behavior of crew

Passengers allege that during the hours of delay, they were not given food coupons or breakfast. Passengers also claimed that when they complained, the cabin crew did not help.

Javalge said, “When we raised the issue, the crew members behaved rudely with us. The most disturbing thing was that passengers were suffering from suffocation and yet the captain was insisting on takeoff.”

Passengers also alleged that after deplaning, there was a delay in getting medical help for the pregnant woman. According to Javalge, no ambulance was present to treat the woman and it took more than 20 minutes for the ambulance to arrive.

The replacement flight for affected passengers departed from New Delhi at 5 AM on Wednesday. This flight reached Pune around 7:30 AM.
