While the fund collected nearly \u20b9480 crore in donations, its total expenditure stood at just \u20b987.85 lakh.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:0\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"word-break:break-word;text-align:left;white-space:pre-line\"><span class=\"e913fbaa d3886593\"><strong>Total spending drops below 1% of donations<\/strong><\/span><strong\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"word-break:break-word;text-align:left;white-space:pre-line\">According to the audited financial statements of the PM-CARES Fund, the trust received total contributions of \u20b9479.98 crore during the financial year 2024-25. This includes \u20b9479.04 crore in domestic donations and \u20b992.82 lakh in foreign donations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"word-break:break-word;text-align:left;white-space:pre-line\">In contrast, the total money spent by the fund during the same period was only \u20b987.85 lakh. This total expenditure represents approximately 0.18% of the fresh donations collected during the year. This is a significant drop from the previous financial year (2023-24), when the fund spent \u20b915.60 crore, which was about 2.28% of the \u20b9682.95 crore in donations received that year.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:0\"\/><span style=\"font-size:0\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"word-break:break-word;text-align:left;white-space:pre-line\"><span class=\"e913fbaa d3886593\"><strong>How much govt spent on children welfare?<\/strong><\/span><strong\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"word-break:break-word;text-align:left;white-space:pre-line\">The vast majority of the fund&#8217;s expenses in 2024-25 went toward the &#8220;PM CARES for Children Scheme.&#8221; The fund allocated \u20b987,84,840 (approximately \u20b987.85 lakh) to this scheme during the year. This represents a substantial decline from the \u20b915,37,56,360 (approximately \u20b915.38 crore) spent on the children&#8217;s welfare program in the previous financial year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"word-break:break-word;text-align:left;white-space:pre-line\">The remaining expenses consisted of bank and SMS charges, which amounted to just \u20b9451 for the entire year. In 2023-24, these administrative bank charges were much higher, at \u20b922.43 lakh.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"word-break:break-word;text-align:left;white-space:pre-line\"><span class=\"e913fbaa d3886593\"><strong>Govt earns \u20b9469 crore interest by opening FD A\/C with PM CARES Fund<\/strong><\/span><strong\/><\/p>\n<div class=\"f3e032cb\"><picture class=\"c62bd949\" style=\"visibility:visible\"><source media=\"(max-width: 768px)\" type=\"image\/webp\" srcset=\"https:\/\/images.bhaskarassets.com\/webp\/thumb\/360x0\/web2images\/1884\/2026\/08\/19\/pmcareseng_1787134712.jpg\"\/><source media=\"(min-width: 768px)\" type=\"image\/webp\" srcset=\"https:\/\/images.bhaskarassets.com\/webp\/thumb\/512x0\/web2images\/1884\/2026\/08\/19\/pmcareseng_1787134712.jpg\"\/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"730\" height=\"1202\" src=\"https:\/\/images.bhaskarassets.com\/web2images\/1884\/2026\/08\/19\/pmcareseng_1787134712.jpg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"f97587ba\"\/><\/picture><\/div>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"word-break:break-word;text-align:left;white-space:pre-line\">Despite the low expenditure, the fund&#8217;s reserves continued to grow due to massive bank interest. In 2024-25, the PM-CARES Fund earned \u20b9475.13 crore in interest. This includes \u20b9469.37 crore from fixed deposits and \u20b95.76 crore from savings bank accounts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"word-break:break-word;text-align:left;white-space:pre-line\">Additionally, the fund received a refund of \u20b9324.65 crore from implementing agencies that execute government programs. Together with the donations, these receipts pushed the total funds available with the trust to \u20b98,452.96 crore during the year (inclusive of the year&#8217;s receipts and refunds).<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"word-break:break-word;text-align:left;white-space:pre-line\"><span class=\"e913fbaa d3886593\"><strong>Final closing balance and cash reserves<\/strong><\/span><strong\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"word-break:break-word;text-align:left;white-space:pre-line\">By the end of the financial year on March 31, 2025, the PM-CARES Fund&#8217;s total closing balance grew to \u20b98,452.06 crore. This is an increase from the previous year&#8217;s closing balance of \u20b97,173.03 crore.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"word-break:break-word;text-align:left;white-space:pre-line\">Out of the \u20b98,452.06 crore currently held by the fund, \u20b97,846.65 crore is locked in fixed deposits (FDs) with scheduled banks to earn interest.
