The minister will interact with young people, discuss their concerns and understand their views on issues related to the country.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:0\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"word-break:break-word;text-align:left;white-space:pre-line\">The initiative comes amid student protests over the NEET paper leak case in Delhi\u2019s Jantar Mantar and other parts of the country.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"word-break:break-word;text-align:left;white-space:pre-line\">Sources told PTI that under the initiative, the government will try to directly understand the problems faced by young people and students.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"word-break:break-word;text-align:left;white-space:pre-line\"><strong>Ministers to meet students under \u2018One Day, One University\u2019 programme<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:0\"\/><span style=\"font-size:0\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"word-break:break-word;text-align:left;white-space:pre-line\">According to sources, under the \u2018One Day, One University\u2019 programme, each Union minister will be assigned a university. The minister will interact with students on various topics, listen to their views and inform them about various government welfare schemes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"word-break:break-word;text-align:left;white-space:pre-line\">Special emphasis will be placed on schemes being run for young people and students. Education Minister Pralhad Joshi and Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya have been given the responsibility of coordinating the ministers\u2019 university visits and liaising with the institutions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"word-break:break-word;text-align:left;white-space:pre-line\"><strong>Plan also discussed in Cabinet meeting<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"word-break:break-word;text-align:left;white-space:pre-line\">Sources said the proposed programme was also discussed at the Union Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday. There are around 1,300 universities in the country.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"word-break:break-word;text-align:left;white-space:pre-line\">According to the University Grants Commission (UGC), 57 of these are Central universities and 522 are State universities. The remaining universities are deemed or private universities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"word-break:break-word;text-align:left;white-space:pre-line\"><strong>Government initiative follows student protests<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"word-break:break-word;text-align:left;white-space:pre-line\">There was widespread opposition after police action against protesting students in Delhi on July 20. The Opposition also disrupted proceedings during Parliament\u2019s Monsoon Session.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"word-break:break-word;text-align:left;white-space:pre-line\">Amid the student protests, Dharmendra Pradhan had to resign as Education Minister on July 25. Prime Minister Modi has also directly reached out to students through social media on several occasions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"word-break:break-word;text-align:left;white-space:pre-line\"><strong>Schemes for youth announced on Independence Day<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"word-break:break-word;text-align:left;white-space:pre-line\">In his Independence Day speech, Prime Minister Modi announced several initiatives aimed at young people.
