<\/picture><\/div>\nLucknow police say an SBI officer carried out two murders and killed himself within 30 minutes, after allegedly surveilling his estranged wife for two days. Initial investigation has pointed to two possible motives: bank manager Divya Mishra had sought \u20b91.5 crore in alimony from her husband, SBI officer Manas Bajpai, during divorce proceedings, and she did not want to live with his mentally ill sister, Sheeba.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n According to police sources, a hearing in the couple’s divorce case was held in family court on 18 August, during which a dispute reportedly broke out between Manas and Divya over the alimony demand. Police say Manas grew increasingly disturbed after this and began planning to kill his wife and sister before taking his own life. He allegedly bought three firearms and surveilled Divya for two days.<\/p>\n On Thursday afternoon, around 12 pm, Manas reportedly arrived by auto-rickshaw at the ICICI Bank branch where Divya worked and called her outside. Police say the two argued and there was a physical altercation, after which Manas shot her twice in the face. The incident was captured on CCTV cameras installed outside the bank.<\/p>\n He then reportedly fled the scene in the same auto-rickshaw and reached his home, about 2 km away. Police say he shut himself in a room, played the Hanuman Chalisa loudly on television, then shot his sister Sheeba in the head before shooting himself.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Divya was the sister of YouTuber Pragya Mishra, who has alleged that her brother-in-law was “psycho” and that her sister kept her distance from him for this reason. Then her husband Manas shot her.<\/span><\/p>\n Love marriage nine years ago, wife left home a year ago<\/strong><\/p>\n According to family members, Manas and Divya married in 2017 and their relationship was reportedly fine in the initial years, but disputes over minor issues began later, leading to growing distance between them.<\/p>\n In 2018, when Manas’s mother was diagnosed with cancer, Divya reportedly moved back in with him. Around this time, disputes are said to have started between the couple over living with Manas’s sister. After his mother’s death in 2019, Divya reportedly separated again, before the two later reconciled.<\/p>\n In 2025, the dispute over the sister reportedly resurfaced, with Divya saying she did not want to live with her, while Manas was said to be unwilling to agree. Divya reportedly moved out completely in November 2025.<\/p>\n Manas is said to have tried to save the marriage and spoke to Divya several times, but the matter eventually reached Lucknow family court. Divya filed a case in the family court in January 2026, beginning the legal divorce process.<\/p>\n Divya had a love marriage with Manas 9 years ago. She also got Manas’s name tattooed on her hand.<\/span><\/p>\n Bought three weapons, began surveilling wife<\/strong><\/p>\n A friend of Manas told police he had been out of the city for around three months for bank audit work. After returning, he reportedly learnt of the 18 August family court hearing and attended it, where police say he learnt of the \u20b91.5 crore alimony demand, which allegedly left him stressed.<\/p>\n According to the police investigation, after the 18 August hearing, Manas planned to kill his wife and sister and then take his own life. He is said to have arranged three weapons \u2014 reportedly two 9mm pistols and a country-made pistol \u2014 over two days. Police have recovered all three weapons, all of which were loaded. Where and from whom he obtained them is still under investigation, after which he allegedly began surveilling Divya.<\/p>\n Called wife over, allegedly beat then shot her<\/strong><\/p>\n Divya’s cousin, Mayank Dixit, said that on 20 August, Divya had gone out for bank work and, upon returning to office by car in the afternoon, found Manas already present. He reportedly signalled to her and said he wanted to talk.<\/p>\n When Divya approached him, Manas allegedly began assaulting her. Bank guards and staff reportedly rushed to help her, during which Manas allegedly shot her in the forehead. Divya collapsed on the road, after which Manas fled the scene.<\/p>\n He is then said to have gone straight to his home, about 2 km away, where he allegedly shot his sister Sheeba dead before shooting himself. Her sister’s accident happened due to stress.<\/span><\/p>\n WhatsApp status before suicide alleged wife “betrayed” him<\/strong><\/p>\n Police say Manas put up a WhatsApp status after killing his wife, in which he accused her of betrayal and wrote about killing himself and his sister. The status reportedly also mentioned Divya’s sister Pragya and her husband, Bharat Yadav.<\/p>\n Mayank Dixit said Pragya and Bharat had no knowledge of any such plan, and that Manas’s behaviour had not seemed normal for some time. Police are also investigating the claims made in the status.<\/p>\n Before committing suicide, the accused had put a status on WhatsApp. It read – I have killed my wife because she cheated on me.<\/span><\/p>\n Divya was living with parents, Manas lived with sister in rented house<\/strong><\/p>\n After separating from Manas, Divya had been living at her parental home in Shringar Nagar, Alambagh. She had recently built a house in Buddheshwar, Para, where she was living with her parents at the time. Her father is a retired government employee, while her mother is a homemaker.<\/p>\n Manas lived in a rented house near Husadiya Chauraha with his sister, Sheeba Bajpai (28). He worked as a field officer at SBI’s engineering college branch. His father, also a bank employee, died around six years ago; his mother has since died as well.<\/p>\n Divya’s parents are in a terrible state, crying inconsolably. She used to live with her parents.<\/span><\/p>\n Pragya alleges Manas was also involved in mother’s death<\/strong><\/p>\n YouTuber Pragya Mishra wrote on X, alleging that her sister had told her Manas and his sister had beaten their ailing mother so severely that she died. She alleged her brother-in-law was “psycho” and had stalked Divya before. She said Divya had been in an accident some time earlier due to stress, breaking her arm and leg, and had only returned to work after a month and a half, still limping.<\/p>\n Pragya wrote that everyone who knew Divya was aware of what she had endured, and that she felt this was an important time to speak out despite her grief.<\/p>\n This is a picture of Divya’s sister Pragya Mishra and her husband Bharat Yadav. Manas has also mentioned both of them in his WhatsApp status.<\/span><\/p>\n “He was cruel to my sister,” Pragya alleges<\/strong><\/p>\n Pragya alleged that on their wedding night, Manas had drawn up a list of household expenses and insisted Divya pay half, which she had agreed to. She alleged he was cruel to her sister, including berating her over spoiled tomatoes ordered through a delivery app.<\/p>\n She said Divya had stopped paying her share of expenses over the past year, which she believed Manas may have viewed as a betrayal, while Divya had simply wanted to separate from him. Pragya said her sister had told her there had been a confrontation between Manas and a counsellor during family court proceedings.<\/p>\n “She wanted things to be fine, hoped he would change”<\/strong><\/p>\n Pragya said she had known her brother-in-law was cruel to her sister and that this was why Divya wanted to separate, but she had not anticipated he would take such a drastic step.
