It rewards content that feels spontaneous and humorous rather than tightly scripted political messaging.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"word-break:break-word;text-align:left;white-space:pre-line\">The contrast became particularly visible during recent protests, when protesters used Instagram reels and short videos to amplify their message. Can reels translate into genuine public engagement? Let us discuss.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"word-break:break-word;text-align:left;white-space:pre-line\"><strong>Is Instagram key to reaching young audiences?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"word-break:break-word;text-align:left;white-space:pre-line\">With young people increasingly consuming information through social media, political communication is also adapting to this changing media landscape.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"word-break:break-word;text-align:left;white-space:pre-line\">The challenge, however, is to ensure that digital engagement goes beyond simply reaching young audiences and contributes to meaningful political participation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"word-break:break-word;text-align:left;white-space:pre-line\">Prof. Shuchi Yadav, Chairperson, Centre for Media Studies, JNU, said digital outreach is imperative in the present mediated environment. The real test is whether online engagement is backed by governance and the ability to address people&#8217;s concerns.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"word-break:break-word;text-align:left;white-space:pre-line\">Political analyst and VoteVibe founder Amitabh Tiwari cautioned that a stronger Instagram presence by itself will not guarantee electoral gains. According to Tiwari, political leaders need to listen to people and address their problems. He said the Congress has more Instagram followers than the BJP, but that has not translated into electoral victories for the party. But simply leaving digital communication to a team is not enough. The question is whether leaders themselves are involved in the process and understand what connects with people and what issues are shaping public sentiment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"word-break:break-word;text-align:left;white-space:pre-line\">Tiwari said simply hiring a professional social media team is not enough, he said. Leaders need to understand what content is working, how audiences are responding, what comments are being made and what issues are attracting public attention.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"word-break:break-word;text-align:left;white-space:pre-line\">He said political leaders who have successfully adapted to social media have developed a distinct \u201cdigital persona\u201d.
