Mumbai residents have been hit by inflation ahead of the festive season. The Bombay Milk Producers Association (BMPA) has announced a \u20b99 per litre hike in wholesale milk prices.<\/p>\n

The new price will come into effect from September 1. After the hike, the wholesale milk price in Mumbai and surrounding metropolitan areas will rise from \u20b993 to \u20b9102 per litre.<\/p>\n

The revised price will remain in effect for the next six months, until February 28, 2027. According to the association, this is one of the biggest one-time hikes in milk prices in recent years.<\/p>\n

Higher costs of fodder, transport and cattle care<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dairy farmers and cattle-shed operators have cited rising production costs as the main reason behind the milk price hike. Over the past year, the prices of green fodder, chuni and oilcake, which are essential for cattle, have steadily increased.<\/p>\n

In addition, the cost of transporting milk, caring for cattle and operating cattle sheds has also gone up. Rising costs have increased financial pressure on milk producers.<\/p>\n

Impact from retail milk to sweets<\/strong><\/p>\n

The rise in wholesale milk prices is expected to directly affect consumers in Mumbai. Local milk vendors, dairies and home-delivery suppliers may pass on the higher cost to customers from September 1.<\/p>\n

In some places, retail prices could rise slightly more than the wholesale increase. The impact will not be limited to milk. Higher milk prices could also push up the prices of curd, paneer and other dairy products.<\/p>\n

With milk consumption rising during the festive season, sweet shops, bakeries and food outlets will also face higher costs. As a result, prices of sweets and other milk-based products may increase during the festive period.<\/p>\n
