Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a two-day visit to Uzbekistan. Today, PM Modi will visit the Shastri Memorial and the Mahatma Gandhi Centre in Tashkent. This will be his fourth visit to Uzbekistan as Prime Minister.<\/p>\n

Modi will meet President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in Tashkent. The meeting will include discussions on trade, investment, defence, energy, education and enhancing mutual cooperation.<\/p>\n

The meeting will also focus on new avenues for expanding cooperation under India’s Viksit Bharat 2047 and Uzbekistan’s Uzbekistan-2030 vision. After this, he will depart for Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.<\/p>\n

After his visit to Uzbekistan, Prime Minister Modi will stay in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, from August 31 to September 1. There, he will participate in the 26th SCO Summit.<\/p>\n

India has been a full member of the SCO since 2017. The summit will discuss issues such as security, terrorism, trade, connectivity and economic cooperation.<\/p>\n

During the summit, Modi may meet Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin and leaders of other countries.<\/p>\n

Modi will also attend the opening ceremony of the 6th World Nomad Games in Bishkek.<\/p>\n

1. Mineral Reserves:<\/strong> India has long been trying to strengthen its relations with the countries of Central Asia. Central Asia has large reserves of oil, gas, uranium, and other critical minerals.<\/p>\n

2. Energy Needs:<\/strong> India wants to increase cooperation with the countries of this region to meet its energy needs.<\/p>\n

3. New Business Routes:<\/strong> India also wants to expand trade with the countries of Central Asia. To this end, it is working on developing new trade and transportation routes.<\/p>\n

4. Campaign Against Terrorism:<\/strong> India is also increasing cooperation with these countries on issues such as the situation in Afghanistan and terrorism.<\/p>\n

2016: <\/strong>Modi attended the SCO summit in Tashkent. During this conference, the process of granting India full membership in the organisation moved forward. India became a full member of the SCO in 2017.<\/p>\n

2022: <\/strong>Modi attended the SCO summit in Samarkand. Amid the Russia-Ukraine war, he told Russian President Putin, “Today’s era is not one of war.” His statement became a topic of discussion around the world.<\/p>\n

The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) is a regional international organisation established in 2001 by China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. India and Pakistan later joined it in 2017. Iran also became a member in 2023.<\/p>\n

The SCO aims to enhance security, economic and political cooperation among its member countries. The organisation develops joint strategies on issues such as terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking and cybercrime.<\/p>\n
