<\/picture><\/div>\nClimate activist Sonam Wangchuk has said he believes the founders of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) have political ambitions, but called it \u201cvery normal\u201d for people involved in public movements to aspire to enter politics.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n Asked to assess the personalities of CJP founders Abhijeet Dipke, Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das, Wangchuk said, \u201cThey are not saints\u201d, adding that it was unrealistic to expect them to have no personal ambitions.<\/p>\n Wangchuk said there was nothing wrong with the founders having political aspirations and that they could eventually join an existing political party or launch one of their own. However, he stressed that the CJP itself should remain politically neutral and should not become a vehicle for their political ambitions.<\/p>\n Wangchuk urges CJP to remain a neutral pressure group<\/strong><\/span> <\/p>\n Wangchuk suggested that the CJP should function as a \u201cneutral, apolitical pressure group\u201d to retain the trust of its supporters, who see it as a student-led movement rather than an organisation aligned with the BJP, Congress or AAP.<\/p>\n He acknowledged that his own expectations of public figures had sometimes led him to believe that they should have no political ambitions. However, he said this was unrealistic, as the CJP organisers were ordinary people entitled to pursue political careers.<\/p>\n Wangchuk said starting a political career by championing an education-related cause could be a positive development. He also expressed hope that their experience with the movement would help them become more mature and grounded politicians.<\/p>\n \u2018I have no interest in becoming a minister\u2019<\/strong><\/span> Wangchuk said he had no interest in becoming a minister, despite suggestions that he should take charge of the Education Ministry. He argued that an individual alone cannot fix India\u2019s education system without wider political and institutional reforms.<\/p>\n He also criticised the criminalisation of politics and called for a \u201cSecond Independence\u201d to prevent people facing serious criminal cases from entering Parliament.
