<\/picture><\/div>\nThe aircraft took off from Varanasi for Delhi at 8 AM (File)<\/span><\/p>\n An Air India Express flight travelling from Varanasi to Delhi had to make an emergency landing at Lucknow airport on Thursday morning (3 Sept). According to sources, a smoke alarm went off in the aircraft\u2019s cargo compartment.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The pilot immediately contacted Lucknow. As soon as clearance was received from Air Traffic Control (ATC), the aircraft was landed. Once the aircraft touched down, the response team took charge. Fire brigade personnel and technical experts also reached the spot, and the aircraft was inspected.<\/p>\n The aircraft (IX 1253) took off from Varanasi airport at around 8 am on Thursday . Shortly afterwards, the smoke detection alarm in the cargo compartment began sounding. The pilot then landed the aircraft at Lucknow airport at 8:52 am.<\/p>\n At 9:02 am, 155 passengers and crew members were deplaned. After the inspection, the aircraft was parked at the airport stand. Following the initial checks, it was reported that there were no signs of smoke inside the aircraft. An investigation is underway to determine why the alarm was triggered.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Passengers to be sent to Delhi on another aircraft<\/strong><\/p>\n Air India has parked the aircraft at the Lucknow airport. An expert team will inspect the entire aircraft. Meanwhile, the passengers will now be sent to Delhi on another aircraft. For the time being, all passengers have been accommodated at a hotel near the airport. They will be sent to Delhi once another aircraft is arranged.<\/p>\n Major aviation-related incidents in Uttar Pradesh in the past one-and-a-half years<\/strong><\/p>\n 19 August 2026:<\/strong> The tail of an IndiGo aircraft struck the ground while landing at Gorakhpur airport. All passengers were safe.<\/p>\n 25 May 2025:<\/strong> An IndiGo flight arriving from Delhi had to make an emergency landing in Varanasi due to security reasons. All passengers were safe.<\/p>\n 14 September 2025:<\/strong> An IndiGo flight bound for Delhi returned and landed at Lucknow airport shortly after take-off due to a technical fault. There were 151 passengers on board, all of whom were safe.<\/p>\n 6 May 2025:<\/strong> An IndiGo flight travelling from Mumbai to Gorakhpur developed a technical problem after take-off. The aircraft had to make an emergency landing at Mumbai airport. All 190 passengers on board were safe.
