A 70-year-old mosque on the Saharanpur Collectorate premises is being demolished. Six bulldozers have been working on the structure since 4 am on Saturday, with one section already brought down.<\/p>\n

As a precaution, five companies of PAC and RAF, along with around 200 police personnel, have been deployed. Police are restricting people from approaching the mosque.<\/p>\n

The development came after rumours spread around 11 pm on Friday that the administration was planning to demolish the mosque, drawing a large crowd to the site. The administration later reached the spot and dispersed the crowd.<\/p>\n

Kairana MP Iqra Hasan, who was travelling to Saharanpur to oppose the action, was placed under house arrest. During the incident, she reportedly confronted the inspector and a woman sub-inspector, saying, \u201cYou cannot stop us. We are not afraid of anyone.\u201d<\/p>\n

BSP chief Mayawati appealed to the government to immediately halt the action, saying such a hurried move was inappropriate.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, MP Imran Masood appealed to people during a Facebook Live session not to do anything that could create problems later. He said demolishing the mosque was not right and that they would approach the High Court against the action.<\/p>\n

The administration arrived with bulldozers at 4 am. The demolition is being carried out on a magistrate\u2019s order after the court declared the mosque illegal.<\/p>\n

Here is the case explained step by step:<\/strong><\/p>\n

  • The mosque was built on 3,000 square feet. On 10 February 2025, former Bajrang Dal provincial convenor Vikas Tyagi complained to the District Magistrate, alleging that the mosque was illegal. He also alleged that rent was being collected from rooms on the mosque premises and from the post office.<\/li>\n
  • The DM then ordered a magistrate-level inquiry. The investigation found the mosque to be illegal. On 24 March 2025, the administration filed a petition in the City Magistrate\u2019s Court.<\/li>\n
  • On 16th July 2026, the court declared the mosque illegal and ordered its removal, along with recovery of \u20b96.41 crore in damages. The occupants were given 30 days to vacate.<\/li>\n
  • On 20th July, the mosque committee challenged the magistrate\u2019s order in the district court. On 24 July, the district court stayed the magistrate\u2019s order and continued the proceedings.<\/li>\n
  • On 2nd September, District Judge Satendra Kumar\u2019s court upheld the City Magistrate\u2019s order and dismissed the mosque committee\u2019s petition.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n

    When police personnel stopped Iqra Hasan, she became angry and asked, \u201cWhy are you stopping me? Have I committed any crime?\u201d<\/p>\n

    The inspector said she was being stopped because of the Janmashtami festival. Iqra replied, \u201cWhat disturbance will we cause? Who knows, maybe we are going to attend a festival?\u201d<\/p>\n

    She then said, \u201cTry stopping us.\u201d The inspector responded, \u201cNo, no, I am requesting you.\u201d Iqra replied, \u201cI reject your request. I will definitely go. You cannot stop us.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

    Former Bajrang Dal provincial convenor Vikas Tyagi had complained to the DM, alleging that the mosque on the Collectorate premises was illegal.<\/p>\n

    He alleged that the mosque located within the District Magistrate\u2019s office complex had been built illegally.<\/p>\n

    He claimed it was being used not only for religious purposes but also for commercial activities.<\/p>\n

    A post office was operating there, while rooms on the mosque premises were allegedly rented out to outsiders.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
