Union Minister Amit Shah said in Goa on Sunday that the government has eliminated Naxalism and will now tackle the drug problem in the same manner.<\/p>\n

He said, “After Naxalism, we will tackle the drug problem in the same way. Those who envisioned a Red Corridor from Tirupati to Pashupatinath have now laid down their arms and joined the mainstream.”<\/p>\n

Three-year nationwide campaign:<\/strong> Shah said the entire country would support the three-year Drug-Free India campaign. He appealed to the media, particularly in Goa, to actively contribute towards achieving the objective of eliminating drug abuse across the country.<\/p>\n

Over 1 crore kg of narcotics seized:<\/strong> He said that during the Congress-led government between 2004 and 2014, around 26 lakh kg of narcotics were seized. In comparison, between 2014 and 2026, the figure rose to more than 1.19 crore kg, reflecting intensified enforcement efforts.<\/p>\n

1 lakh anti-drug volunteers to be trained:<\/strong> The Home Minister said the campaign aims to reach 50 crore citizens nationwide. Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent interaction with 1 crore young people in a single programme, Shah announced that the government plans to train 1 lakh ‘Nasha Mukti Mitras’ (anti-drug volunteers) to strengthen awareness and prevention efforts.<\/p>\n

Taking advantage of this geographical location, traffickers attempt to use India both as a transit route for drugs to other countries and as a major market. This is why India remains a target for drug trafficking networks.<\/p>\n
