A 210-km-long Ram Van Gaman Path is being constructed from Ayodhya to Chitrakoot in Uttar Pradesh, with a four-lane highway being built along the routes taken by Lord Shri Ram during his exile.<\/p>\n

However, before it could open, the highway began sinking at Shringverpur in Prayagraj, with the road sinking at 118 spots across both lanes over a stretch of around 500 metres, cracks measuring 1 to 1.5 feet appearing and the approach section leading to the bridge tilting nearly 30 degrees to one side.<\/p>\n

Viewed from beneath the bridge, the approach walls also appear to have bulged outward by about half a foot. Work is now being carried out hurriedly to fill the cracks. When the Bhaskar reporter inspected the condition of the highway, cracks ranging from one to one and a half feet were found in the road.<\/span><\/p>\n

The road has subsided where it joins on the overbridge. It has developed an inclination of approximately 30 degrees. Cracks have also appeared in the slope built alongside it.<\/span><\/p>\n

In some places, the road has sunk by up to one foot<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

We reached the Ram Van Gaman route to Chitrakoot in Shringverpur and entered the left lane of the four-lane highway. From here, up to the bridge over the Kanpur Highway, about 500 metres ahead, the road was found to have caved in at several places. The bridge’s approach road has also sunk downward by nearly 30 degrees.<\/p>\n

Then, to return from the same bridge, we moved to the right lane and found the same condition on this side for the next 500 metres. The road has caved in across both lanes, with cracks one to one and a half feet wide.<\/p>\n

When we counted some of the larger potholes, we found that the road had sunk at 118 places over 500 metres in both the left and right lanes. In some places, the road has settled by up to one foot. About 300 metres beyond this bridge, a bridge is being constructed over the Ganga. However, the road farther ahead is in good condition.<\/p>\n

We spoke to people who travel through this area. Ujjwal Pandey said, “During construction, the soil was not properly compacted and strengthened, nor was sufficient rolling carried out. Proper attention was also not paid to water sprinkling and vibration.”<\/p>\n

In addition, the quality of the asphalt used in the road also appears to be extremely poor. The road has sunk at several places because heavy rainwater seeped in and the soil was not compacted properly. Cracks have appeared in it. There is a risk of the road collapsing about 10-15 feet below the bridge approach. Vehicles are passing below.<\/p>\n

The Road Cracked in the Middle Due to the Contractor’s Negligence<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Shiva Shankar Prajapati said, \u201cThe road has cracked in the middle. One side of the road has completely sunk. A slope has formed beneath the road, making it frightening to pass through here.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added, “Due to the recent heavy rains and inadequate drainage, water accumulated beneath the road, causing it to sink. Potholes have also developed in several places on the road. It seems that the contractor was negligent during construction or that the work was carried out in haste.”<\/p>\n

A BJP leader’s brother’s company is constructing the road<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The construction of the Ram Van Gaman Path is being carried out by PNC Infratech. The company is owned by Pradeep Jain, the brother of BJP Rajya Sabha MP Naveen Jain.<\/p>\n

The same company also constructed the Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway. That expressway too had potholes at around 84 locations. After the Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway sank, the NHAI declared the company a non-performing entity. The company also removed three officers.<\/p>\n

210-km-long Ram Van Gaman Path being built at a cost of \u20b94,400 crore<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Under the Ram Van Gaman Path Project, a nearly 210-kilometre-long, four-lane road is being constructed from Ayodhya to Chitrakoot. Approximately \u20b94,400 crore is to be spent on this project.<\/p>\n

Its objective is to provide better road connectivity between religious and historical sites such as Ayodhya, Sultanpur, Pratapgarh, Shringverpur Dham, Kaushambi, and Chitrakoot. Lord Shri Ram travelled through these routes during his exile.<\/p>\n

The project was scheduled to be completed in December 2024, but after a delay of one and a half years, it is now nearly complete. It was being said that PM Modi and CM Yogi could inaugurate it soon.<\/p>\n

Foundation stone laid in 2022<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The foundation stone for the Ram Van Gaman Path project was laid in 2022. Considered extremely important from religious and tourism perspectives, the completion of this project is expected to make travel easier for pilgrims from Ayodhya to Prayagraj and Chitrakoot.<\/p>\n
