When disaster strikes, borders become meaningless. In the aftermath of the devastating floods in Nepal, people across West Bengal are showing that solidarity does not need a passport. From a police officer donating half his monthly salary to relief efforts, political workers collecting essential supplies, an Assam Rifles jawan travelling to the affected areas, and a social organisation contributing to a relief fund, different sections of Bengal are extending a helping hand to Nepal.<\/p>\n

These are people from different walks of life, but their message remains the same: when communities face devastation, humanity must come first.<\/p>\n

Malda police officer shares half monthly salary<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

In Malda, West Bengal Police officer Utpal has chosen to donate half of his monthly salary towards relief efforts for flood victims in Nepal.<\/p>\n

His contribution is more than financial assistance. It reflects a personal decision to stand with people facing a humanitarian crisis despite being separated by an international border. His gesture also sends a wider message that individuals do not need to make extraordinary contributions to help those in distress.<\/p>\n

Even a personal sacrifice, when directed towards someone in need, can make a meaningful difference.<\/p>\n

Hooghly communities gather funds and supplies<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

In Hooghly, local communities have also responded to the crisis. CPI(M) workers and supporters in Chinsurah and Konnagar have collected relief materials and funds for people affected by the devastating floods in Nepal.<\/p>\n

Their efforts highlight how local networks can mobilise resources during a humanitarian crisis. The initiative has brought together people at the community level to collect essential supplies and financial assistance for those struggling to recover from the destruction caused by the floods.<\/p>\n

Assam Rifle jawan with team reaches Nepal directly<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Help has also reached Nepal directly from Siliguri. Assam Rifles jawan Shakti Pal and his team travelled to Nepal on August 30 to assist communities affected by the sudden and devastating flash floods.<\/p>\n

The three-member team first reached Kathmandu before travelling to Bidur Municipality in Nuwakot district. After witnessing the destruction, Pal and his team joined hands with the Nepal Army in rescue and relief operations the following day.<\/p>\n

Their efforts went beyond distributing relief materials. They helped residents clear mud and silt from homes inundated by floodwater, working alongside families trying to rebuild their lives after the disaster.<\/p>\n

The team later distributed essential relief materials among 50 affected families. The supplies included plates, bowls, cooking pots, ladles and other basic kitchen utensils.<\/p>\n

Different efforts, one shared humanitarian message<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

From Malda to Hooghly and Siliguri, these efforts have taken different forms.<\/p>\n

A police officer is sharing half his salary. Communities are collecting funds and relief materials. An Assam Rifles jawan and his team are physically helping flood victims. Members of a social organisation are pooling their contributions to support relief work.<\/p>\n

None of these gestures can reverse the destruction caused by the floods or restore everything that the water has taken away. But they can provide survivors with something equally important in the aftermath of tragedy: hope and the assurance that they have not been forgotten.<\/p>\n

The response from Bengal is therefore more than a collection of relief initiatives. It is a reminder that police personnel, security forces, political workers, community groups, and social organisations can all contribute when humanity faces a crisis.<\/p>\n

Nepal needs support, and Bengal is responding, one salary, one collection drive, one relief team, and one contribution at a time. When nature tests humanity, the greatest response is not simply to watch from a distance.<\/p>\n
