A property dispute involving Sandeshkhali protest figure and Hingalganj MLA Rekha Patra allegedly turned violent after she reportedly got into a physical altercation with a relative. A video of the incident has since gone viral on social media.<\/p>\n

Dispute over ancestral property continues for years<\/strong><\/span> Patra’s parental home is located in the Bou Thakurani area under Sandeshkhali police station in Basirhat. According to local accounts, a dispute over the family’s property has continued among relatives for several years.<\/p>\n

Relative allegedly tried to take possession of land<\/strong><\/span> According to the allegations, a relative of Patra, identified as Sanjit Naskar, attempted to take possession of the disputed land in 2025. The matter subsequently reached the Basirhat court. The court reportedly issued an order concerning the disputed property, allowing Sanjit Naskar to access the land and carry out cultivation until April 28, 2027, subject to the terms of the order. Following the court order, Naskar reportedly went to the land to cultivate it. After receiving information, Patra allegedly reached the area and tried to stop him from working on the field.<\/p>\n

Physical altercation breaks out at disputed property<\/strong><\/span> The situation reportedly escalated into a physical altercation involving Patra, Naskar and members of his family. The exact sequence of events could not be independently verified. According to the allegations, personnel from Sandeshkhali Police Station arrived to intervene, following which Patra allegedly pushed or manhandled one of the police personnel.<\/p>\n

Video of alleged incident circulates online<\/strong><\/span> A video purportedly showing the altercation has been widely circulated on social media. The authenticity, context and full sequence of the footage could not be independently verified. Details regarding any complaint, case or legal action arising from the incident were not immediately available. A response from Rekha Patra and the police would be required to establish the circumstances surrounding the altercation.<\/p>\n
