Bora serves as the District Development Officer (DDO) of Dhemaji district. He is accused of taking money from people on the pretext of securing government contracts, jobs and liquor shop licences.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:0\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"word-break:break-word;text-align:left;white-space:pre-line\">According to the complaints, Bora took \u20b92 crore from one person and \u20b950 lakh from another. He has also been accused of demanding a \u20b950 lakh bribe from political leader Ramen Barthakur. In addition, a complaint has surfaced alleging that he did not pay a contractor after getting a government bungalow repaired.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"word-break:break-word;text-align:left;white-space:pre-line\">A vigilance investigation has revealed that the fraud had been going on since 2011. During the investigation, it also emerged that people were allegedly called using imitations of the voices of senior leaders and ministers to win their trust. The number of victims in the case is expected to increase.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"word-break:break-word;text-align:left;white-space:pre-line\"><span class=\"e913fbaa d3886593\"><strong>He won people&#8217;s trust by calling them in the voices of senior leaders<\/strong><\/span><strong\/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:0\"\/><span style=\"font-size:0\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"word-break:break-word;text-align:left;white-space:pre-line\">According to SSP Rojy Kalita, Deveshwar Bora used to assure people of his high-level connections. During the investigation, the victims said that Bora would arrange phone conversations for them with senior leaders and ministers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"word-break:break-word;text-align:left;white-space:pre-line\">It is alleged that the voices of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, the Chief Secretary, and other senior leaders and ministers were imitated.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"word-break:break-word;text-align:left;white-space:pre-line\">This made people believe that Bora had direct access to powerful figures and could get their work done. Trusting him, they would give him lakhs and crores of rupees.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"word-break:break-word;text-align:left;white-space:pre-line\">According to Kalita, Bora would take money from one person and give it to another, using this money to run his network.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"word-break:break-word;text-align:left;white-space:pre-line\"><span class=\"e913fbaa d3886593\"><strong>Bora was not alone; an entire team was involved<\/strong><\/span><strong\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"word-break:break-word;text-align:left;white-space:pre-line\">The investigation has revealed that an entire team worked with Bora. Team members helped contact people and carry out the fraud. The investigating agency is now examining the identities and roles of those involved in the team.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"word-break:break-word;text-align:left;white-space:pre-line\"><span class=\"e913fbaa d3886593\"><strong>Case registered after several complaints<\/strong><\/span><strong\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"word-break:break-word;text-align:left;white-space:pre-line\">Several victims approached CM Vigilance. It has emerged that, by combining separate complaints and FIRs, Case No. 14\/26 was registered against Deveshwar Bora.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"word-break:break-word;text-align:left;white-space:pre-line\">The investigation found that the fraud cases date back to 2011. For this reason, provisions of the old Indian Penal Code have also been invoked in the case. The agency is now determining the total amount defrauded and the number of people affected.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"word-break:break-word;text-align:left;white-space:pre-line\"><span class=\"e913fbaa d3886593\"><strong>9 mobile phones recovered, only one SIM registered in Bora&#8217;s name<\/strong><\/span><strong\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"word-break:break-word;text-align:left;white-space:pre-line\">During the investigation, nine mobile phones were recovered from Bora. Only one of the SIM cards was registered in his name, while the remaining SIMs were found to be registered in the names of other people.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"word-break:break-word;text-align:left;white-space:pre-line\">The investigating agency is also examining the use of these numbers. It is being determined who used the SIM cards issued in the names of other people. The possibility of offences under the Information Technology Act is also being investigated in the case.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"word-break:break-word;text-align:left;white-space:pre-line\"><span class=\"e913fbaa d3886593\"><strong>Accused of holding properties in his brother&#8217;s name<\/strong><\/span><strong\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"word-break:break-word;text-align:left;white-space:pre-line\">Vigilance is now preparing to investigate Bora&#8217;s assets disproportionate to his income as well. It is alleged that Bora held several properties in his brother&#8217;s name.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"word-break:break-word;text-align:left;white-space:pre-line\">Investigating officers have also recorded his brother&#8217;s statement. Bora&#8217;s income and assets will now be compared. The investigation will also determine whether he has any role or financial interest in properties held in other people&#8217;s names.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"word-break:break-word;text-align:left;white-space:pre-line\">Information has emerged that a fraud case has also been registered against Deveshwar Bora in Arunachal Pradesh.
