Amruta Fadnavis, wife of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, has called Maratha reservation activist Manoj Jarange Patil her brother and invited him to her home for a meal.<\/p>\n

Speaking after an event in Nagpur on Wednesday night, Amruta said, \u201cJarange ji is my brother. I want him to come to my house for a meal.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jarange has been protesting for the past 13 days at Antarwali Sarati village in Jalna, demanding reservation for the Maratha community under the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category.<\/p>\n

Besides OBC reservation, Jarange is demanding the implementation of the Hyderabad and Satara Gazette records and the issuance of Kunbi caste certificates to eligible members of the Maratha community.<\/p>\n

Fadnavis says government ready for dialogue<\/strong><\/p>\n

Amid Jarange\u2019s ongoing protest, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Tuesday that the government would take all possible steps within the framework of the Constitution.<\/p>\n

Fadnavis said the government had never closed the doors for dialogue and clarified that reservation meant for one community would not be taken away and given to another.<\/p>\n

Amruta backs Muslim participation in Garba<\/strong><\/p>\n

Amruta also commented on the participation of Muslims in Navratri and Garba celebrations. She said festivals are meant to bring people together and that there was nothing wrong with Muslims attending such events.<\/p>\n

She described Garba and Navratri as an opportunity to showcase aspects of Hindu culture and traditions to people and introduce the world to them.<\/p>\n

Her remarks came amid a political debate over Muslim participation in Garba events after Maharashtra minister and BJP leader Nitesh Rane backed the Vishva Hindu Parishad\u2019s (VHP) demand to restrict their entry.<\/p>\n

VHP calls for ban on Muslim entry at Garba events<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Vishva Hindu Parishad announced last week that Muslims would not be allowed to enter Garba and Dandiya events in Maharashtra during Navratri.<\/p>\n

The Navratri festival is scheduled to begin on October 11. The VHP\u2019s announcement has since intensified the political debate in Maharashtra over the participation of Muslims in Garba celebrations.<\/p>\n
