Several SpiceJet flights were disrupted at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on Saturday. Operational difficulties caused delays to several flights, while some had to be cancelled.<\/p>\n

Passengers faced inconvenience as a result. The Delhi airport apologised for the inconvenience caused to passengers and said its teams were continuously coordinating with SpiceJet and the parties concerned.<\/p>\n

According to the airport administration, the ground-handling team and other staff members were assisting affected passengers. Arrangements were also made to provide passengers with necessary assistance and help them contact and coordinate with airline representatives. However, SpiceJet has not yet issued any official statement on the operational problem.<\/p>\n

SpiceJet already grappling with financial crisis<\/strong><\/p>\n

SpiceJet has been facing financial and operational challenges for a long time. Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu said on 3 September that the government holds monthly discussions with airlines about their problems and challenges. Discussions are also being held with SpiceJet on expanding its operations and improving its financial position.<\/p>\n

According to the minister, the government has been continuously urging SpiceJet to expand its operations, and the airline has assured it that it will do so soon. He said SpiceJet had not sought any additional financial assistance from the government but was trying to raise funds through the Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme (ECLGS).<\/p>\n

ECLGS 5.0 approved for airlines in May<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to the government, airlines are facing challenges such as rising ATF prices, airspace closures, a reduction in international flights, low aircraft utilisation and cash-flow problems. In view of these financial pressures, the Union Cabinet approved ECLGS 5.0 in May to provide targeted credit support to Indian airlines.<\/p>\n

In SpiceJet’s case, the government’s focus is on addressing the airline’s financial difficulties while expanding its operations. A large part of the airline’s fleet has been grounded for a long time because of its financial condition. The disruption to flights at Delhi airport on Saturday caused inconvenience to passengers during this period.<\/p>\n
