<\/picture><\/div>\nThe Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested Kailash Chand Mangla, promoter of Sukriti Foods, in a money laundering case linked to the adulteration of ghee used to make Tirupati laddu prasadam.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n According to the agency, the ghee supplied to the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) under the name of Agmark Special Grade Cow Ghee had been prepared using chemicals such as refined palm oil, palm kernel oil, palmolein and acetic acid esters.<\/p>\n The ED claimed that around \u20b9230 crore worth of ghee was supplied to the TTD between 2019 and 2024. Of this, Mangla had prepared around \u20b996 crore worth of adulterated ghee.<\/p>\n ED arrested Mangla on 17 September<\/strong><\/span> <\/p>\n The ED said Mangla was arrested from his office in Hyderabad on 17 September in the TTD ghee adulteration case. He was subsequently produced before the Special PMLA Court in Visakhapatnam.<\/p>\n The court sent him to judicial custody. According to the ED, Mangla had helped procure the adulterating materials and prepare adulterated ghee at his factory.<\/p>\n The adulterated ghee used for Tirupati laddu prasadam was prepared from chemicals such as refined palm oil, palm kernel oil, palmolein and MG-90, monoglycerides, Myvacet Soft 400 and acetic acid ester.<\/p>\n ED had earlier arrested Vipin Jain as well<\/strong><\/span> According to the ED, Mangala also helped supply adulterated ghee through companies such as Vaishnavi Dairy Specialities, Malganga Milk and Agro Products and A.R. Dairy Foods.<\/p>\n The agency alleges that she also created fake records of the purchase and sale of ghee and refined palm oil to conceal the use of adulterated substances and make them appear to be genuine cow ghee. The ED had earlier arrested Vipin Jain, promoter and director of Bhole Baba Organic Dairy Milk, in the same case.<\/p>\n TDP had accused YSRCP<\/strong><\/span> Andhra CM Chandrababu Naidu’s party TDP, alleged on 18 September 2025 that ghee containing animal fat and fish oil had been mixed into the laddus (prasadam) served at the Tirupati temple under the YSR Congress government in the state. The next day, TDP displayed a lab report and claimed it confirmed its allegation.<\/p>\n Know the history of the Tirupati laddu<\/strong><\/span> More than 3.5 lakh devotees are given laddu prasadam every day at the Tirumala temple. This tradition has continued since 1715, for more than 300 years.<\/p>\n The prasadam is prepared in the temple kitchen, known as Pottu, where artisans from the traditional community have been passing down the craft of making it for generations.
