Gujarat Schools Colleges Closed & Haridwar Ganga Alert

As July comes to an end, heavy rainfall continues across the country. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a red alert has been issued for 1 August in Gujarat, Saurashtra-Kutch and Central Maharashtra.

A red alert indicates the possibility of more than 204 mm of rainfall within 24 hours.

An orange alert has also been issued for Punjab, Arunachal Pradesh, Kerala, Konkan-Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Karnataka.

In Gujarat, all schools and colleges will remain closed on 1 August as the state is expected to receive up to 12 inches of rain, according to the IMD.

In Himachal Pradesh, 130 roads remain closed due to rain-related disruptions. In Assam, the flood death toll has risen to 80, although the number of people affected by floods has fallen to 2 lakh.

Continuous rainfall in the hills and plains has also pushed the Ganga in Haridwar close to the danger mark.
