
A 70-year-old woman was killed after a Mercedes and a WagonR collided head-on in Delhi’s Narela area on Saturday morning, police said.
The accident occurred at around 8 am in front of Himalayas Apartment in Mamurpur. The deceased was identified as Urmila.
According to Delhi Police’s preliminary inquiry, the Mercedes and WagonR collided head-on. The impact sent the WagonR backwards, causing it to hit a three-wheeler loading van that was parked nearby.
Urmila, who was present at the spot, was caught between the vehicles and died on the spot. The driver of the WagonR suffered minor injuries and was provided medical assistance.
Relative alleges Mercedes driver was drunk
A relative of the deceased alleged that the Mercedes was travelling at a very high speed when the accident occurred.
“My aunt was feeding birds when the car hit another car, and she was crushed between the two cars,” the relative said, alleging that the Mercedes driver was drunk and travelling at around 100 km/h.
The relative said the accident occurred at around 8:30 am. The allegation of drunk driving and the vehicle’s speed have not yet been independently confirmed by police.
Visuals from the spot also showed a beer bottle inside the Mercedes.
Police probe underway
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision and are expected to examine CCTV footage and other evidence to determine the sequence of events.
Further details about the Mercedes driver and whether a case has been registered were not immediately available. The body of the deceased woman was taken for necessary legal and medical procedures.
