Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said on Friday that the police did not use excessive force to stop the protest at Jantar Mantar. In an interview given to India Today, Rijiju said that when thousands of people march towards Parliament, security forces will try to stop them.
Rijiju further said that the opposition is making false claims of firing during the protest. When no firing took place at Jantar Mantar, the question of who fired does not arise.
The opposition had alleged that the police used excessive force, including pellet guns, during the July 20 Parliament march. Rijiju said that if pellet guns had been fired in a protest of thousands of people, a large number of people would have been injured. Not just one or two people would have been hurt.
