zActor Govinda’s wife Sunita Ahuja’s manager, Shashi Sinha, has questioned her decision to withdraw the divorce petition. In an interview with NDTV, Sinha said that if Sunita intended to withdraw the case, there was no need to take the matter to court in the first place.
He said family issues should ideally be resolved through discussion at home and expressed disappointment that the dispute had become a public spectacle.
‘If the case had to be withdrawn, why was it filed?’
Shashi Sinha said, “There was no need to go to court. Family matters can be resolved by sitting together and talking. If the petition was going to be withdrawn today, why was it filed in the first place? I am very sad that we all became a spectacle for no reason.”

Manager says the family’s image was affected
Sinha said the differences between Govinda and Sunita had remained in the media spotlight for around one and a half to two years. According to him, this affected Govinda and the family’s image.
He added that disagreements are common between married couples, but once a personal dispute reaches the court and the media, it becomes a public matter. He felt the situation could have been handled privately.
Sunita withdraws divorce petition against Govinda
Sunita withdrew her divorce petition against Govinda on Wednesday. She was seen arriving at Mumbai’s Family Court with their son, Yashvardhan Ahuja.
Speaking to Dainik Bhaskar, Govinda’s manager Shashi Ranjan said that things were now fine and that the couple was expected to return to normal.
A video recorded outside the court showed paparazzi asking Sunita and Yashvardhan what had happened inside. Yashvardhan replied, “Nothing happened. Let it go,” before escorting his mother towards their car.
Before leaving, Sunita appeared irritated and said, “We had gone to celebrate a birthday,” before getting into the car.

Sunita had filed for divorce in December 2024
Sunita had filed a divorce petition against Govinda at the Bandra Family Court in December 2024. The matter came into the public domain in August 2025, when reports claimed that she had sought divorce under Sections 13(1)(i), 13(1)(ia) and 13(1)(ib) of the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955.

Sunita recently objected to Govinda’s appearance with co-star
The divorce controversy resurfaced amid Sunita’s comments about Govinda being seen with his co-star Komal Rani Swarnkar from his upcoming comeback film Rupa.
Sunita had criticised the actor for being seen with a woman she described as being around their daughter’s age. She also said Govinda should be ashamed of the situation.
She also took a dig at Komal’s clothing, saying that if the actress’s alleged “sugar daddy” was so wealthy, she should at least dress decently. Sunita added that people should maintain their own standards and compared the situation with the way she lives her life.

Govinda tells Sunita to ‘stay within limits’
Govinda reacted strongly to his wife’s remarks and warned her to “stay within limits”. He also defended Komal and accused Sunita of trying to damage his reputation and affect his comeback.
Govinda said that when Sunita was working on projects such as Laughter Chefs and Lock Upp 2, she had involved him in them. However, he claimed that after he started working on a film, she began making statements that could harm his image and career.
Govinda defends his co-star
While defending Komal Rani Swarnkar, Govinda said people from less privileged backgrounds should not be humiliated or shamed after entering the film industry.
He said those who have achieved wealth, fame and respect should not use their position to put down people who are still struggling.
Govinda also objected to Sunita’s language, saying-
I don’t do the work that is offered outside, and you are interfering in what I am doing. And when you were doing your work, be it a cooking show (Laughter Chef) or Lock Upp, you had Tina (daughter) call me for it, you took my services. Well, that’s your right, but the moment I started a film, you are leaving no stone unturned to make me fall out of people’s hearts, get defamed, or something happens that my business doesn’t work out.
Meanwhile, Govinda said, defending co-actress Rani Swarnakar,
If people from a poor family have come into films, do not defame or shame them in such a way that they run away. You have capability, strength, respect, wealth, fame, everything has been given by God. This does not mean that you humiliate those who do not have these things. This does not suit you.
Govinda also criticised Sunita for allegedly using abusive language
He said that such language, particularly when it involves abuses referring to mothers and sisters, could set a bad example. He added that he did not expect such behaviour from her and urged her to consider how it would look if others followed the same example. Read the full news here

In an interview with MissMalini, Sunita had also spoken about rumours surrounding Govinda’s alleged affairs. She said that while people can make mistakes when they are young, hearing such things at the age of 63 was difficult for her.
Speaking about the name Komal, she said she disliked it because of the person associated with it.

Sunita also spoke about Govinda’s alleged affairs during her appearance on Lock Upp 2.
She said that she had tolerated his alleged affairs when they were younger because she believed that love meant being able to tolerate certain things. However, she added that she would not accept the same things now.

Govinda and Sunita Ahuja got married in a private ceremony in 1987. At the time, Govinda was already an established Bollywood star.
The couple kept their marriage private for nearly two years because they reportedly believed that making it public could affect Govinda’s career. They eventually revealed their marriage after the birth of their daughter, Tina Ahuja.
The couple later welcomed their son, Yashvardhan Ahuja.
