
The Tamil Nadu government has issued work orders for around 1.28 lakh gold rings for babies born in government hospitals. The rings are estimated to cost ₹220 crore.
The Tamil Nadu Medical Services Corporation (TNMSC) placed the orders with Joyalukkas and Kalyan Jewellers late on Friday night, in a 70:30 ratio. The rings will be given to children born in government hospitals between June and September.
The scheme will be launched on September 15, the birth anniversary of Dravidian movement leader CN Annadurai. Children born in government hospitals after Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay’s birthday on June 22 will be eligible for the scheme.
