New Delhi has been decorated with posters and lights ahead of the BRICS Summit, giving several parts of the capital a festive look.
The summit will be held on September 12 and 13 at Bharat Mandapam. This year’s official theme is “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.”
Delhi Traffic Police has prepared a traffic plan, with 22 diversion points and traffic controls or diversions on more than 35 roads during VIP convoy movements.
Delhi High Court and all district courts will remain closed on September 11, while trial courts will also have a holiday on September 12.
All lower courts in Delhi will remain closed for three consecutive days—September 11, 12, and 13, from Friday to Sunday.
All MCD and Central Government offices will also remain closed on September 11. Only hospitals, sanitation, and emergency services will continue to operate.

Foreign leaders and delegates to attend summit
Heads of state, foreign delegates, international organisation chiefs and senior officials will attend the summit. Delhi Traffic Police said security and traffic measures are being implemented to ensure smooth movement of foreign delegates while minimising inconvenience to the public.
Additional CP (Traffic) Dinesh Kumar Gupta said traffic may be stopped briefly while VIP motorcades pass.
NSG conducts ‘Operation BRICS Kavach’
The NSG’s ‘Operation BRICS Kavach’ is significant as India is hosting the summit, which will bring together leaders from BRICS member and partner countries, along with outreach invitees.
Around 100 NSG commandos took part in the exercise on Tuesday, conducting drills at four locations at different times.
The aim was to ensure that if a terror threat emerges, the NSG, Delhi Police and other security agencies can respond together without delay.
Rehearsal from nine hotels to Bharat Mandapam
Gupta said foreign delegates will stay at nine hotels, and routes from these hotels to Bharat Mandapam have been identified.
He said convoy rehearsals are being conducted along the designated routes, while police personnel are being fully briefed on the arrangements.
How BRIC became BRICS?
BRICS began as the BRIC grouping of Brazil, Russia, India and China. The foreign ministers of the four countries held their first meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York in 2006.
The first BRIC summit was held in Yekaterinburg, Russia, in 2009. After South Africa joined in 2011, the group became BRICS.
In January 2024, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the UAE became full members, followed by Indonesia in January 2025.
BRICS now has 11 full members, with its number of partner countries also growing. The group has significant influence in global economic and diplomatic affairs.

Indian companies could gain access to new markets
Along with ISRO, India’s private space-tech sector could also benefit from BRICS cooperation. Indian companies could partner with member countries in areas such as launch services, small satellites, satellite imagery, Earth observation, geospatial intelligence, agricultural mapping and disaster management applications.
If a joint data network and space council are developed, BRICS countries could open new markets for Indian technology, services and applications.
Traffic restrictions across Delhi

Delegates will stay at nine hotels, with dedicated routes identified between the hotels and Bharat Mandapam. Police personnel are being briefed and convoy rehearsals are being conducted along these routes to ensure smooth movement.
Courts, government offices to remain closed
The Delhi High Court and all district courts will remain closed on September 11, while trial courts will also observe a holiday on September 12.
As a result, lower courts across Delhi will remain closed for three consecutive days, from September 11 to 13.
