A 21-year-old woman in Bengaluru was allegedly kidnapped by four men sent by her family after she married against their wishes. The accused, who had reportedly come from Rajasthan, allegedly tried to take her back to the state.
The woman, identified as Pooja, had married Om Prakash, also from Rajasthan, around 8–9 months ago. The couple had married against their families’ wishes and later moved to Bengaluru, where they were living in a rented house.
Four men allegedly took woman from home
According to Bengaluru Police, Pooja’s family sent four men on Wednesday evening to bring her back. The accused reached the couple’s house in Agrahara Dasarahalli and allegedly forcibly took Pooja outside before putting her in a Hyundai Venue.
The men then allegedly fled at high speed with Pooja in the car. Local residents heard her screaming and attempted to stop the vehicle.
During the escape, the car allegedly hit several vehicles, leaving six people injured. The injured have been identified as Prithviraj, Yashika, Amul, Mani, Jayalakshmi and Santosh. Jayalakshmi suffered a serious head injury and has been admitted to the ICU.
Locals chased car and stopped it
After Pooja was allegedly taken away, local residents chased the car and tried to stop it. The vehicle was eventually intercepted near Hosahalli. Some people also reportedly threw stones at the car.
An eyewitness claimed that more than 20 people were injured and that people trying to stop the vehicle were attacked with sharp-edged weapons. Police, however, said they have so far received information about six injured people.
Three detained, driver absconding
Police identified the four accused as Saddam, Rakesh, Karan and Ayan. Saddam, who was allegedly driving the car, remains absconding, while the other three have been detained.
Police have seized the Hyundai Venue and brought Pooja to safety. She and the accused are being questioned at Vijayanagar Police Station as the investigation continues.
