Union Home Minister Amit Shah has written to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, seeking time for a discussion on the NEET paper leak protests.
Shah said he was ready to attend the debate and answer the Opposition’s questions. He also asked Birla to consult the Opposition and decide the time for the discussion by consensus.

2. 48 hours under rubble, newborn rescued alive; Colombia earthquake kills 224
Around 48 hours after Colombia’s 7.4-magnitude earthquake, rescuers pulled a baby alive from the rubble of a collapsed five-storey building.
A man was rescued alongside the baby after workers heard his voice beneath the debris. The dramatic rescue came as the death toll reached 224, with more than 600 people injured and over 2,700 reported missing.
The baby had been struggling to breathe but was successfully brought out alive during the third day of rescue operations. READ MORE
3. India’s inflation rises for 7th-straight month in July to 4.45%
India’s retail inflation rose to 4.45% in July 2026, crossing the RBI’s 4% target for the second month in a row. It was 4.38% in June.
Inflation increased in both rural and urban areas, reaching 4.84% and 3.96%, respectively.
The government said higher prices of ginger, garlic and onions were a key reason.

4. India’s top families now richer than Netherlands and Saudi Arabia’s economy
India’s 300 richest family businesses now have a combined wealth of ₹138 lakh crore, up by around ₹30 lakh crore since 2024.
That is more than the GDP of countries such as the Netherlands, Saudi Arabia and Switzerland.
The Jindal family added the most wealth, rising 70% to ₹8.02 lakh crore in three years.
Meanwhile, the Ahuja family of Shahi Exports saw the biggest growth, with its wealth jumping 352% to ₹37,500 crore. READ MORE

Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly married his long-time partner, Georgina Rodriguez, in Portugal.
The couple, who met in Madrid in 2016, are said to have had a civil marriage on Tuesday. They later shared a photo of their wedding rings on Instagram.
Ronaldo and Georgina have two children together, while Ronaldo has five children in total.
