A fine was also imposed in Bhopal for cutting trees.
The Bhopal Municipal Corporation has imposed a ₹3.30 lakh fine on a company for cutting 66 trees without permission in the State Dairy Farm area of Bhopal.
The company has also been directed to plant more than 10 times the number of trees cut and ensure their maintenance for three years.
66 trees found cut during inspection
Following directions from Municipal Commissioner Sanskriti Jain, officials from the Corporation’s Garden Department inspected the State Dairy Farm area.
During the inspection, officials found that 66 trees of varying girths had allegedly been cut without permission by the contractor firm, Arjun Construction Company.
The trees included 60 babul trees, five khejda trees and one palash tree.
Company fined under tree protection law
The Municipal Corporation issued a notice to Arjun Construction Company under the Madhya Pradesh Preservation of Trees (Urban Areas) Act, 2001, and Rules, 2002.
The company was fined ₹3.30 lakh for cutting the trees without authorisation.
In addition to the penalty, the company was directed to carry out compensatory plantation of 10 times the number of trees cut and maintain the newly planted trees for three years.
₹1,000 spot fine for cutting tree and dumping waste
On Monday, the Corporation also took action in Ward 64 against a person for cutting a tree without permission.
A ₹1,000 spot fine was imposed and recovered from the violator.
In separate actions across other areas, the civic body penalised people for disrupting cleanliness arrangements. A total of 70 cases were recorded, with ₹11,300 collected as spot fines.
