A Class 2 student was found dead in the Khari River in West Bengal’s Purba Bardhaman’s Nadanghat after she went missing while returning from private tuition on Tuesday. Her family alleged that she was raped and murdered.
Girl’s body found floating in river
The incident took place in the Gauriranga area under Nadanghat police station. According to the family, the girl had gone to a local private tutor in the morning.
A minor boy, who is also known to the family, had reportedly gone there to study as well.
Family alleges rape and murder
After the tuition ended, the girl did not return home for a long time. Her family and local residents began searching for her in the area.
During the search, the minor allegedly told his family that someone had taken the girl away on a motorcycle. Based on the information, the family and local residents approached the police.
Post mortem likely to establish cause of death
Later in the afternoon, residents spotted the girl’s body floating in the Khari River. Nadanghat police subsequently recovered the body from the river.
Police have detained the minor boy and his father for questioning. The exact cause and circumstances of the girl’s death are yet to be established.
Tension grips area as investigation continues
Police have started an investigation, while the incident has created tension in the area. The girl’s body is expected to be sent for a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death and verify the family’s allegations.
