The results of the DUSU elections held at Delhi University will be announced today. Vote counting will begin at 8 a.m. The voting held on Friday recorded a turnout of 40.46%. It is the largest student election in the country.
ABVP has fielded Yash Dabas for the post of president and Eeshu Maurya for the post of vice-president.
Meanwhile, NSUI has nominated Vijay Shankar Meena for president and Veer Chatrath for vice-president.
The Delhi High Court has banned victory processions of any kind after the results of the students’ union (DUSU) elections are announced.
Delhi University has two campuses, 91 colleges; elections held in 52
Delhi University has two campuses. The South and North campuses are located around 15 km apart. Together, the two campuses have 91 colleges, but not all DU colleges can vote in the DUSU elections.
Only 52 colleges and faculties directly take part in voting for DUSU. Some prominent colleges, including St Stephen’s, Lady Shri Ram and Jesus and Mary, are also not part of DUSU.
Several prominent leaders, including Arun Jaitley, have served as DUSU president
Arun Jaitley: He served as DUSU president in 1974 and later became the Union government’s finance and defence minister (BJP).
Vijay Goel: Served as DUSU president in 1977 and later became a Minister of State in the Union government (BJP).
Ajay Maken: Served as DUSU president in 1985 and later became the Union Minister for Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation (INC).
Alka Lamba: Served as DUSU president in 1995 and later became a Delhi Assembly MLA and the national president of Mahila Congress (INC).
