Gulshan Kumar and Roshan arrested in the bomb threat case
Two accused who sent threatening e-mails to blow up the Chief Minister’s Office, the Legislative Assembly and other government buildings in Gandhinagar were arrested from Bihar and Jharkhand. After an e-mail threatening to blow up the Secretariat was received on 10 September, the cyber team began a technical analysis. The investigation traced the location of the person who had used the e-mail to Bhagalpur in Bihar, leading to the arrest of Roshan Kumar. The investigation then led to Deoghar in Jharkhand, where the main accused, Gulshan Kumar Singh, was also arrested.
A list containing 5,13,847 unique e-mail IDs and passwords was recovered from the accused. These were used to issue the threats. The investigation also revealed that the accused were being provided financial assistance by co-accused living in Bangladesh in return.
Gulshan Kumar Singh revealed to have created and sold more than 5 lakh email IDs Vivek Bheda, SP of the Cyber Cell of Excellence, said that it had emerged that Gulshan Kumar Singh had created more than 5 lakh unique Gmail email IDs and passwords so far. He created not only email IDs and passwords, but also authenticators and seed codes. These details were then sold onwards and used to send threat emails.
Roshan’s Direct Role in the 10 September Threat Email The ID of the threatening email sent to the Secretariat on 10 September was also found on a sheet recovered from Gulshan. However, Roshan Kumar sent the threatening email from Bihar using this ID. Gulshan prepared and forwarded the email ID and password, while Roshan used them to send the email.
Connection with Anti-National Elements in Bangladesh The investigation has revealed details indicating that Gulshan Kumar Singh was in contact with some anti-national elements in Bangladesh. According to the preliminary investigation, Gulshan prepared email IDs and passwords and sent them to Bangladesh, and an investigation is under way into whether they were used from there. It has also emerged that he received cryptocurrency payments through USDT for this. The investigation into the exact role of the Bangladeshi elements and their links with Gulshan is continuing.
Crores worth of transactions in crypto wallets Two crypto wallets have been recovered from the accused. A preliminary investigation has revealed that transactions worth crores of rupees were carried out through them. However, the crypto wallet and banking transactions are being analysed to determine how many of these transactions were legitimate and how many were linked to the threat email network.
More than 14,000 IDs created in just the last two days The police investigation has revealed more shocking details. It has emerged that Gulshan Kumar had been carrying out this type of operation since 2022. An examination of data from just the last two days found that more than 14,000 unique email IDs had been created. The number of IDs created during the preceding period exceeds 5 lakh.
Threat emails received across the country will be investigated The cyber cell will now obtain data on bomb threats and other threat emails previously received across India, in addition to the emails received in Gujarat, and investigate them. It will also investigate whether any of the email IDs obtained from the accused had been used in previous threat emails. Details of these IDs will be shared with other law enforcement agencies so that the accused can be traced if any threat is issued using these IDs in the future.
Roshan has passed Class 12; Gulshan studied up to B.Sc. Roshan Kumar, who was arrested in Bhagalpur, has passed Class 12 and works at a technical ITI. A police investigation found that he was tech-savvy and knew about technical matters, including bypassing email authentication. The preliminary investigation indicates that his main motive was to make money.
Gulshan Kumar Singh, who was arrested in Jharkhand, studied up to B.Sc. He was involved in technical work, including email development, digital marketing and social media handling. According to the police, no previous criminal history of either man has emerged on paper.
The two accused are currently being questioned. The investigation is being expanded to determine whether anyone else is involved in the network, who was involved in contact with Bangladesh, and whether this network was used in previous threat emails. The Gandhinagar police have received cooperation from the Bihar and Jharkhand police, and coordination with i4C will also be undertaken as required.
